A workable way to install skype 4.3 in puppy
stoychod wrote: Hello everybody , Let me clear the matter: Skype has dropped support for SSE processors so Skype 4.3 won't work on such machines.Open up a terminal and type: $ cat /proc/cpuinfo Check the output of the command-look for the "flag" line/s.If you don't see "SSE2" (o...

Skype Fails to Start
Ok, I guess the Skype induced change finally caught up. This happened over a week ago on my Windows machine but at that time Skype 2.2beta still started and connected on Crypto Puppy 5.2.8. In fact that's how I knew it was still working because I didn't have time to download 4.3 on my windows OS and...

Skype Fails to Start
OK, the proposition that changing machines was causing this problem is now proven incorrect. I have been using machine specific save files and once again the 2.2 Beta version of Skype that was bundled with this latest 5.2.8 distribution. will not start. It worked great last time I booted up and toda...

Skype Fails to Start
Making a simple save file for the road sounds OK but I will need to configure Skype etc as I go. That really is no big deal since these all seemed to work well but then how do I go about NOT saving those configs at shutdown? I didn't see an option at shut down to "not save" when already us...

Skype Fails to Start
OK, Thanks for the replies. I didn't mention that the FD I use is formatted in ext2. It sounded like it was best choice. Before I go on, the Puppy Crypt 528 distro was really great out of the box. Very complete and user friendly for the newbie. Plus security items to boot. I'm sure starting fresh wi...

Skype Fails to Start
I am running Puppy Crypt 5.2.8 from a bootable Flash drive with personal save file. This version came preloaded with Skype which I activated during initial set up. It worked great, no problems. I was running then on 7 year old HP desktop with 2gb ram from a bootable flash drive. I shutdown and saved...

Save File Backup
Thanks for the replies. The real problem was that the save file could not be saved while in use. That makes sense but how exactly to access the save files to copy and not activate them? I just put the live CD without the usb and get a session going THEN insert the usb and make the file backup copies...

Save File Backup
Thanks for the answers, I've got a plan now. Nothing like changing oil with the engine running! The reason I went with ext 2 is because I thought I might use encryption but then decided not to do it. The options setting it up sort of leaned toward ext2 for the undecided.
Anyway-thanks a lot.

Save File Backup
I guess what I want is to double save the sessions file, on the normal flash and somewhere else for use if the original flash gets lost or trashed. I think I understood you last answer but does the session need to be closed out before the save file is copied? And since you mentioned that the fskme f...

Save File Backup
I copied the save file while the session was in progress and that may be the problem. I later copied it back into a flash drive replacing the less complete save file that was there and I got all kind of warnings on the next boot. The boot was stopped. Didn't know if it was damaged or needed all thre...

Best way to backup / sync my Save file?
I am running puppy slacko 5.3 as live CD on multiple machines. I am saving session data on a 4gb flash. There are only 3 files on that flash drive. Could someone point me to a description of how to save or sync these files on another medium, windows machine, other flash drive, (what ever is best) fo...

Semme, PPM seems to be working as advertised. I thought I was going to have to build another repo site. Not just select one of the others listed. Also, I was under the misconception that they all were being tried up to the error code. At least the nluug site is OK as reported. For right now I will k...

PPM Downloads Fail
I ran your posted codeline again. I just installed v5.4 like before and saved sessions to the flash drive. I didn't see a reference to boot flash or universal . There was nothing on the v5.3 saved sessions except the printer install and that only took 3 minutes to reestablish. Everything seems to wo...

PPM Downloads Fail
OK, I got the pupfix=ram command entered on the splash page. I got 5.4 running and PPM still doesn't work. Same as before. I was able to download the vbe tool from the browser, Firefox now, and I saved it to ~root. I entered the script you included to the console and the vbetool is unpacked, in ~roo...
