Why does it only work after closing and opening the screen?

So let's just say that (fn + f7) or (fn + f8) sends some numerical signal that tells the computer to go into sleep mode. Why does sleep mode only happen after closing and opening the lid (after making the screen go black)? If I type or click something and then press (fn + f7), all the computer does ...

More info: F8, increase brightness also activates sleep

Also, the button that increases brightness, f8, also triggers sleep mode just as the button that decreases brightness, f7, did before. I tried the close lid, open lid thing with a few other buttons like f9 and f6, but for now it appears to only be f7 and f8 that unexpectedly activate sleep mode.

Puppy Unexpected Sleep Mode

Dear Puppy Linux Users, I noticed something funny with my HP Pavilion dv4. First note that the new Slacko puppy 5.5 is my only OS right now and it's been recently installed via CD-ROM, so everything is at its defaults. Normally, my laptop NEVER goes into sleep mode with Slacko 5.5. If I leave it alo...

Conclusions...

So even if the processor (i-5 M) and ram (4Gb) are the same in the laptop and in the tablet, a linux distro that works on the laptop will not work on the tablet without hardware/compatibility difficulties? That's what you're implying as the answer, correct? Like if I stick my puppy usb into the usb ...

Will puppy work ok on a tablet with an intel i-5?

I have a clunky, broken down laptop with an i-5 mobile processor that I'd like to replace with a touchscreen tablet. Something that also has an i-5, but that doesn't have an optical drive. Will puppy work on the tablet as it does on the laptop? Will the touchscreen work with puppy or will some sort ...

Easiest way to connect to public wifi via terminal?

Hey. Sorry to be jumping into this thread without reading the proceeding posts, but this is all a little confusing to me. As part of learning Unix, I decided to try and switch over as much as possible to the no GUI linux terminal. In class I routinely write programs as text files and send them to th...

So correct me if I misunderstood you....

So let me re-iterate the general consensus that I got to make sure I understand. Even though the entire content of my USB takes up only 700 mb of space, including puppy, the .sfs file, java, and eclipse, my live install, (not frugal install - the puppy stuff isn't restricted to some small folder but...

Problem after booting USB Slacko 5.5 entirely into RAM

Here's the problem I saw... 1. Boot puppy from 2Gb USB. The USB was set to the setting that lets it take up the whole USB (Linux SE 2? It had the number 2 in it, not 3. Anyway...) 2. Press F2 to specify boot options. Specify 2 options. The first disables saving to USB in the middle of working - &quo...

Slacko 5.5 Bug with Eclipse Kepler

I have gotten this bug to happen every time I do the following things... 1. Download 32 bit Eclipse for linux (Classic or Java version) as a tar.gz file from the Eclipse site. 2. Extract the contents to /root/my-applications . Now the eclipse folder is in my applications. 3. Download 32 bit Java 7 (...
