Amazed at file recovery

I've been using Puppy Linux for about 15 years now. I have always found it's simplicity, low resource usage and special features to be handy at various times and for various things. Recently, my Dad mentioned that he had a USB that his windows desktop could no longer read. I said I'd have a play aro...

I'll second that!

Puppy Linux is a super distro, it would be great if bluetooth could be simpler to use.

HP Pavilion g6 - touchpad not working

I'm having trouble (ie., it's dead) with the touchpad when I use puppy on my HP laptop. Oddly, it worked fine for a week or two, then it just stopped. Going back into the touchpad set up has achieved nothing, so I'm currently having to use the keyboard or usb mouse to navigate around the os. I regul...

Not sure that I've been able to find what we're looking for. This is what I came up with after searching for "hp" and "wlan" directories in /proc. ls /proc/sys/dev/hpet/ max-user-freq ls /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/wlan0/ accept_local accept_redirects accept_source_route arp_accept a...

step 1. root# rfkill list 0: phy0: wlan Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no Following this I tried the wifi switch. Pressing 'fn' key and 'f12' (has pic of antenna and light on it) didn't get the desired result. It just caused the Puppy menu to pop up. The wifi light didn't turn off either. Running rf...

Thanks, again, for all your help with this problem. I've installed the dotpet you provided and rebooted. I then ran the following: root# lsmod | grep hp hp_wmi 4832 0 sparse_keymap 1532 1 hp_wmi rfkill 5402 4 cfg80211,hp_wmi,bluetooth wmi 5142 1 hp_wmi hp_wireless 1064 0 root# rfkill list 0: phy0: w...

Thanks tempestuous, that is good to know. Now I have another problem, in my pursuit of portability. Unfortunately, my other laptop is a hp Pavilion g6. From my research, it would seem that it's wifi/bluetooth chip is notoriously difficult to get the bluetooth working (although my Fedora OS has no pr...

Thank you, again. Following your instructions, I am now that much closer to having a fully portable OS that meets my needs. I had, originally downloaded the file from the PPM, and so when you redirected me back to the start of this thread - all became much clearer. I expect that I will need to have ...

Thank you for your help. I couldn't find any file bluez.pet in the Puppy Package Manager. So I'm not sure if I've reinstalled the correct package. What I did reinstall was bluez 4.101. After installation and starting bluetoothd, the bluetooth icon appeared in the task bar. I was able to find my spea...

Open /etc/asound.conf in Geany, and replace "XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX" with the bluetooth MAC address of your bluetooth receiver (or headset), which you determined earlier. I have got to this step, however, my asound.conf looks like this defaults.pcm.card 1 defaults.pcm.device 0 I'm not sure whe...

bluetooth ache

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, very new to puppy. Once I enter bluetoothd into a terminal the bluetooth manager will start from the menu list. However, after finding devices that I can connect to and accepting the pairing. When I try to send a file, no Banana. Here's some, what I hope is us...

Ok, so does this mean I can't get a newer kernel for the current version of Wary that I have - my data limit is small, only 1.5 Gb a month - so 100mb is really going to eat into that. The other question I have now is - if I go with a different version of Puppy do I still get the same access to all t...

I don't have much data in my plan. My laptop is quite old - it's a HP Pavilion g6, so I hope Wary is new enough.

How to use my mobile phone for a wi-fi hotspot?

Hi, I am using Wary 5 and would like to be able to connect to my phones hotspot. When I open up the network wizard only the etho interface is seen. I have tried the load module option and used the auto-probe option. I got so many false hits I gave up on it (8139too, acenic, adm8211, airo, adm8111e, ...
