Aha I see what you mean as regards Linux and NTFS. Yes, I have to agree that Linux should live on a Linux file system. As regards moving, copying, deleting files on a NTFS drive, never had an issue with Linux. My Linux set-ups are always ext3 (internal HDD) for the actual O.S. and various removable ...

@nic007 Never had a problem with ntfs under Linux and most of the files I use are huge, some up to 100GB and average between 2 and 10GB. FAT32 besides the file size limitations, tends to get very fragmented after a while, hence my dislike of it. Anyways, NTFS is still the best option (IMO) so far. A...

Hi musher0 and drunkjedi UDF seems like a great idea, but sadly reading the comments in the second link that drunkjedi posted, makes me nervous to use it. i.e. Not very widespread, possible 69GB limit on Linux and often confusing the heck out of Windows systems. The best option so far is NTFS althou...

Thanks for that drunkjedi will look into exfat-fuse and utils.

Now that you mentioned Fatdog64, I have Xslacko64, will try that, perhaps it works "right out the box".

Common file system for Puppy, Mac and Win?

Hi all Looking for a file system (Read and Write) that is supported by Puppy (Slacko 6.4 32 bit), Mac (el Capitan and OSX) and Windows (7 and 10). I need to format an external USB3 1TB drive to be able to transfer data between these OS'es. Can't use FAT32 due to the 4GB file size limit (some files a...

@smokey01 I may just do that. After reading your post, got thinking about what is the most unusual thing I have used Puppy for. Don't know if this qualifies, but around 2 years ago, I built a simple monitoring system for a local FM radio station which had no budget for a professional monitoring syst...

Forgot to mention, like bigpup's ideas as well, especially a "new programs" section with a good description (and perhaps screen shots as well) and link/s to download it. Although many "new" programs are announced on the forum as well, the announcements is usually "lost"...

Like the idea of a Puppy newsletter too. I wouldn't worry too much about email for the foreseeable future as the Russians are all busy reading the tens of thousands of emails they "got" from the Democrats. Seriously though, I'm not too keen on subscribing via email, so I just pop ove...

Drunkjedi is correct, more than likely it's not a USB driver (or version) issue but the fact that the computer/bios is too old and cannot boot off USB. As drunkjedi also correctly wrote, only Win98SE had USB support. If I remember corectly, Win98 did not play nicely with USB even with drivers. It wo...

If someone had to fly a drone over my property, it's coming down, one way or another. Come to think of it, a large percentage of drones use the open/free band of 2.45GHz for the controls and also video return (if fitted). Many also have a "go home" feature if for whatever reason the contro...

It is called clay pigeon, sorry, drone, shooting .... Sounds like something I would enjoy too. ....SHotguns are allowed and even a .22 air rifle can be quite effective on your own property. Really like the idea of a shotgun, but was thinking more of built-up areas where firing off a shotgun ...

Mmmm, new use for paint ball guns and as an added bonus you won't have the cops dragging you away in handcuffs for using a real gun in a built-up area.

@LazY Puppy Although in theory, it seems like all that one would need would be a text parser which in turn uses a look-up table of words (e.g. a dictionary file of pre-recorded words), in practice it is very different if it is to sound realistic and pleasant. For example, if a word is followed by a ...

I'm sorry to say, but those TTS voices sound really bad. Why not use Google text to speech? Much more natural sounding. It's available as a browser plug-in and for Android. If I'm not mistaken, it will work "out the box" with the latest Chrome as well. As an example, I took nic007's last p...

@Semme Had a look at that email service, have to say that the no-tracking and storage space available is rather appealing. 100GB for $9/month is a pretty sweet deal, considering I could use it to store quite a few video clips and have them available at which ever studio I'm at. Email + cloud storage...
