Two download directories

Just downloaded easydd.gz using the default browser with my new installation of Easy. I lost the download for a while there untill I found it in the directory /file/downloads (all) instead of the normal directory on the desktop /mnt/sda2/home/downloads. Works fine for me now I know where to look but...

Found the lost downloads!

:D aha I found the problem, at least half of it. The files that automatically download go to /file (all) not to the directory on the desktop which is located at /mnt/sda2/home. So we have a hidden download directory. Strange that I got the error message from youtubedl even though it has correctly do...

youtubedl not working

Excellent work, my quirky xerus 8 usb drive was broken so I have replaced it with the easy OS, very fast and easy :) installation, the speaker sound needed a few reboots to get it working on my hp mini. I was happy to find Youtubedl a great app from Quirky. Unfortunately something is wrong with it. ...

vlc player not working after upgrade

@prehistoric I'm glad you got it working, I just reinstalled Quirky Xerus 8.0 after discovering that the Vlc player was not working and Xine wouldn't install codecs properly. As far as I can see my Xerus 8.1.5 was fatally corrupted. With the Xerus 8.0 installation I had to manually add the vmlinuz f...

Ah, sorry prehistoric I was not clear enough about the process I used to get to Xerus 8.1.5 I've confirmed your analysis by trying to reproduce the success reported above by dangerfirebob. I was able to use the universal installer in Quirky Werewolf 7.4 to install from the Xerus 8.1.5 ISO. My proble...

Prehistoric said You need the syslinux efi32 and efi64 packages installed in the system that runs the script to create the installation on a flash drive. We both used Fatdog 710, which allows installing these via Gslapt Another easy way to install is to use Quirky Werewolf to create a new flash driv...

Hi I just updated my Quirky Xerus running on a HP mini with no internal hard drive, it runs great on my 16gb flash drive, I have been using it for a month, previously I had Quirky Werewolf 7.4 running also a great OS for this 64bit HP mini. The 8.1.5 upgrade worked fine but my touchpad is no longer ...

free space in slackosave.sfs

Update: To free space in my save file when I install a new .sfs application I have found that it is possible to do the following: As an example I have moved the applications OpenOffice-4.0-x86-en_US-xz.sfs | audacious-3.3.1-i486.sfs | gimp-2.8.2.sfs to the usb hdd at /mnt/sdb1 from the computer hard...

Update

Here's a quick update on the current state of my Slacko Puppy Linux installation: Following the suggestions of rcrsn51: First I changed the various options in the menu.lst, no joy, Slacko was not able to find the files in the usb hdd (or what Slacko refers to as sdb1) during the boot process. What d...

Oh I see, never mind, I would have undoubtedly enjoyed having a go though, a waste of time maybe but alls good in the learning curve. Many other Linuxes have a WAITUSB boot option that helps to fix this. Interesting , so admitting there is no way to add this option to Puppy Linux is it time to give ...

Aha, now I see it is reading the puppy_slacko_5.7.sfs file from a copy I randomly left on my hard drive, hence ext4  But that means my 4gb save file will take up space on my pc, which in reality has only 40gb of space which is already quite full with a dual boot of ubuntu-studio and ubuntu on ...

Here is the value of the variable PUPSFS: PUPSFS='sda1,ext4,/puppy_slacko_5.7.sfs' The slackosave file is on the top level of the directory, I made it with the live cd and chose to put it on the usb hdd where the puppy_slacko_5.7.sfs file is. Now it will not load nor will it save my session, it acts...

Thank you kindly for the input, it would seem logical, but no :( that doesn't fix it, I get this after changing menu.lst : searching for puppy files.....___ puppy_slacko_5.7.sfs not found. Dropping to initial-ramdisk console # The Grub4dos seems to be working as is, my suspicions are that the key to...

Hi, sorry for the delay! I was away for a while, thank you for the replies, the drive is an old Toshiba with Acer on the box, amazingly resilient, I brought it about 10 years ago to extend drive space on my 40gb Asus laptop also a sturdy machine built to last. Usb hdd slackosave.sfs file not working

I have installed puppy slacko 5.7 no pae to an old 40gb external usb drive and am booting it up on an equally ancient Asus laptop, after forcing it to load by adding Grub4dos to the drive I have got past the first error, it was not even finding the puppy_slacko.5.7.sfs file, Now everything is workin...

Yes , Grub4Dos just kick starts it, I imagine the solution to the problem would be within initrd.gz, I want to read through it but I understand very little of the programming language used. Simply I would like to force Slacko to load/save the save file for instance in the installation that I have ru...
