PS/2

I've had a few PCs do this, so I went back to Puppy 4.00, which didn't have the problem. The detection script in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit has changed, and doesn't appear to work in all cases. Try editing that file, and removing the keyboard detection lines, then inserting BEFORE the mouse detection, the...

PS/2 Detection

I have a few PCs for which PS/2 is not properly detected in PUP421 or 431. I get the message 'Puppy thinks you have a PS/2 mouse', but can't confirm with keyboard (or mouse). The mouse & keyboard detection part of PUP400's rc.sysinit works fine when pasted into later PUPs. Question is: these wer...

Thankyou

Well said, timremy!
To Barry and Warren (in particular, but others too) this moderately techo person says a big THANKYOU.
Folks, let's be supportive - ask questions if you need, tell us all about your successes, but let's not bite the hands that feed us.

firefox crashes / print issues

The pet at the site below fixes a lot of firefox 3 crashes. http://www.4shared.com/file/96370942/9c629d7d/gtk-core-update.html FF3 printing can be a problem - use dejavu sans (or sans-serif) as the default font, and make a file gtkrc in folders /etc/gtk-2.0 and /usr/etc/gtk-2.0 (may need to create t...

Per call disable

Using #44, as a prefix to the dialup number disables cw for that call only, so there are several ways to do it.

re e220

You need to plug in the e220, open a terminal (ie rxvt), and input modprobe usbserial vendor=0x12d1 product=0x1003 . Then run connectwizard to set up, then run defaultconnect.

DHCP

I think deleting the .pid file & a reboot should fix it.
Ndiswrapper is an option but somewhat complicated.

hp ijs .pet package

I think you need hpijs (extra hp drivers). Try installing the following - may not contain the exact driver, but may have one near enough to work. Also, try googling hpijs AND .pet for latest packages.

Epson good

I use epson - they have an interest in linux drivers, and cups printer drivers for most up to the last 3 months or so are in Puppy. I suggest a printer that is about to be superseded (i.e. TX100), not the latest models.

Firewall

I'm no expert, but I set mine thus:
Open a terminal; run connectwizard; select firewall & run.
This creates /etc/rc.d/rc.firewall, which can be run either from a terminal or on startup, as a (late) entry in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.

Options

The gtk-core-update.pet (see below) made firefox 3.0.8 standard go in pup4.10 - without it only opera 9.64 worked, & I find firefox more functional. With ff3, mplayer works well with multimedia. If the update is a problem on your low-spec machine (I use a 6 year old P4), maybe opera will be ok. ...
