Re: How to post
Hi PappyPuppy, I know this is confusing. Stumbled over it a couple of times when I started; and occasionally make a mistake if I'm not paying attention. When posting there are two boxes you can choose: One says New Topic, the Other says Reply. New Topic is just that -- your post will START a New To...

Just curious how to adminster busybox
I'm sorry I (had initially) posted this to the wrong thread by clicking New Topic as I thought it was a forum I hadn't realized I needed to post a reply, my fault. I've decided to try to get the version of dpkg to work that's not in busybox as it has --root command. Of course it's not working yet so...

Who deleted the thread?
Are you an idiot? You've been asked repeatedly to post in the correct section about the OS you are inquiring about. And to STOP posting (and polluting up) this section and the main Puppy OS section? IS IT YOUR DESIRE TO BE PERMANENTLY BANNED? Start following directions that you've already been told...

Re: Am I to understand that I must use Busybox to use dpkg
I installed dpkg from gslapt, version 1.18.4, and it installed fine, and seemed to configure fine. I ran dpkg --configure -a and it did it's thing. I rebooted for some other purpose, then noticed Busybox running. So I tried it, but I haven't yet tried it without --root. I will try some time without...

Ok, so I'm now running dpkg under busybox
It does NOT have a --root option apparently, yet the version of dpkg that's in slapt DOES. This is confusing - do I have two versions of dpkg? One that is a function in Busybox and the other straight away the usual but I have to do something to get it to work? Perhaps the problem that I have is I di...

I've gslapt dpkg onto my Fatdog 7.21
Am I missing something with getting dpkg to work? I noticed on a reboot that Busybox is now running - I guess this has to be running? Anyway, I typed dpkg --configure -a to configure dpkg. I then tried the command dpkg -i --root=/aufs/devsave somepkg.deb But dpkg errored with: dpkg: error: uanble to...

Thanks, Mike
Hi Mike, We all get out of Puppies what we want from them. It appears to me that PappyPuppy wants to understand FatDog at a more foundation level than either of us care to. I think that's great, even if it isn't "my cup of tea". PuppyPuppy, the easiest way to extract the files from an sfs...

Fatdog is a wee bit too hard to set up and maintain
 But I can still have a final goal of a large CD that I pop in to set up a fatdog machine ready to go for development, apps, utilities, and games. I'm just not there yet even if Fatdog 800 IS there. I am content to muck around with Fatdog 7.21 but I also want to know more about how it's put tog...

There's a lot to know to wrangle fatdog into the corral
Hi mikeslr, Currently, I have a number of problems to address: 1) Shrink my savefile 2) Extract the files from .sfs files using filemnt - as long as this is ok, I would rather load fd64_devx721.sfs in that manner since my SFS Manager does not currently work properly. I like simply extracting stuff. ...

My savefile is 32GB
The only problem is my old save file was 16GB and my new one is 32GB - hard to back those up - perhaps I should shrink them way down? Currently, yes, perhaps I'm pushing the envelope a little, but now that I'm using gslapt, I am getting going a little better. I still have to go outside the pup...

UPDATE TO MY PLIGHT
As a preliminary action, I've decided to abandon the SFS Manager/Loader approach for a bit and see if gslapt can slapt things in better. I'll post if I can persist my compilers and such between boots on ths machine that I will honestly replace as I wouldn't doubt that the hard-drive bearings and mag...

Thanks, I understand your a puppy user
@ PappyPuppy:- I believe the other way you could do it would be to download the .pet package of Chrome 70. I understand FatDog has a 'pet-to-.tgz', which converts .pets to the .tgz format FatDog uses? Unfortunately, when you start talking about 'BOOTSTATE' files in FatDog, that's getting beyond me;...

Update on BOOTSTATE
Is that possible? I checked the environment variable, anyway, I found the BOOTSTATE file in /etc - it's just a tad different in location from yours. GENUINE_FATDOG_INITRD='true' AUFS_ROOT='/aufs' BASELINE_MOUNT='/aufs/pup_init' MODULE_SFS_MOUNT='/aufs/kernel-modules' SAVE_DEV_PROTO='/aufs/devsave' S...

I am attaching a report that I notice some stuff is full
Even though my hard-drive is big, perhaps some partition(s) are full? I just made a partial report to focus on the hard-drive. The part that perhaps you could check some time would be under "Mounted File systems". I will also take a look.Note that kernel modules, pupr0 and pupr10 are all f...

One question
I assume that I'm ok to load the packages' latest version? I don't need the earlier ones?
I just used the sfs package manager and tried to download and load skype - it all went fine in the manager but when I try to launch skype nothing happens.

I started Google Chrome from the menu
@ PappyPuppy:- It should simply start from the MenuEntry,,,,,and fairly quickly, too (that's where the 'silent_launch' script in /root/Startup comes into play). Try /home/spot/chrome.sh .....in the terminal, and see what output you get, if it won't start from the Menu entry. Mike. It runs pr...

First command
Also, if you open a console and type: Code: cd /etc/rc.d more BOOTCONFIG | tr " " "\n" Reponse: BOOTCONFIG: No such file or directory. I just booted up and tried the above command. Do you think you could post the listing of your /etc/rc.d/BOOTCONFIG file below? Thanks. I looked ...

I will try the commands you suggest
The problem I have is that my PCs all sit under a desk - if I take one out, it's so much work that I need to just put a new hard-drive and cd rom drive in at the same time. But I will run the commands you suggest and start trying to improve stuff. And I'll post a summary of what I try. It's a shame ...
