Puppy in VirtualBox; how to change screen resolution? SOLVED
Recent puppies do not play well in VirtualBox, which is unfortunate, since that is the easiest way to try out new variants. The default display resolution has been increased to where it is too big for a virtual machine window on a laptop display. If you decrease the resolution with Puppy's built-in ...

Re: Where is the menu in slacko? Where are the system tools?
In slacko, I can't find the equivalent of the left lower corner button in lupu or wary. Where would I find gparted, for example? I'm running slacko in virtualbox, but that works OK with lupu and wary. Carolus... right click on the desktop. Does the menu pop up? Yes, right clicking on the desktop sh...

Booting wary using grub4dos
I put copies of wary_500.sfs in all of: 1) the root of the USB flash, 2) the root of the hard drive system partition (Windows XP on partition 2), and 3) in /nixboot/wary50 on the hard drive, and then tried booting with the following grub4dos menu.lst entry: title wary puppy 5 persistent rootnoverify...

How to boot Wary using grub4dos? I've been booting Puppy 2.16 and 4.12 by chaining from the Windows XP bootloader to grub4dos to a USB flash drive as described in: http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=1058 However, this method does not work for wary 5.0. Using the following entry in menu.lst,...

This means that, in future, systems like Carolus has are more likely to be the norm than the exception. Thanks, didn't know this. I kept stuck several years ago with XP. Good to know. This is hardly a new phenomenon. My 2003 Dell desktop and 2006 Sony laptop both have OEM Windows XP on the second p...

In the post you reference Windows is at the first partition not the second. Yes, so I had to change that. I've noticed elsewhere (maybe unetbootin) that Windows was assumed to be on the first partition. But that is not true for my 3 machines from different manufacturers. In any case, your question ...

I still don't understand your setup. You have already monkeyed yourself by installing grub4dos. You say it is configured to boot from partition 2 which contains the Windows install. Where is puppy then? As described in: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=13861#13861 I had to modify th...

Barry has been on both sides of this fence in the past and so must have given it some thought. All three of my computers, from different manufacturers, have OEM Windows installed not on the first partition, but on the second. The first partition contains stuff from the manufacturer. On the two lapto...

Following is code in the rc.shutdown script in the same directory as rc.init in Lucid 519.] Thanks. I interpret this as showing that there no risk of creating an automatic swap file whenever memory > 256MB. But why not ask permission before proceeding? It should be no big nuisance since this condit...
