I have been reading with great interest all of the entries in this section of the forum. I am using puppy 4.1.2, have a huawei 220 wireless modem and have tried to follow all the steps outlined. What I have done: I thought I had blacklisted my internal modem and after rebooting the BootManager shows...

I am using Puppy on a Dell Dimension 8400 and have always had trouble with sound. I also use my pup (many different versions) on other hardware and sound works fine. What I do when using my Dell is to run alsamixer from the command line, push up the levels on every option to about 50% and save that ...

Xorg and Puppy v4
I have an old Dell laptop which, until now, has supported the Xorg choices when booting Puppy. Version 2.x and 3.x both allowed me to choose an 800x600 screen. However since installing Puppy v4 I can no longer use those options. I am having to use the Xvesa option to see anything at all. Can anyone ...

I have read every word of nap44's excellent dissertation and I have to agree with much of what he has to say. BUT: Puppy is a free distribution, written and maintained by enthusiasts, and in the main works wonderfully. As such, it fills the bill for me. I have an EEE which runs XP on the primary par...

Re: VNC Server using EEE resolution problem
I am using the puppy-eee based on nop 3.01 and have installed vncserver ok on this version. I have used vncserver previously with many versions of puppy, but not with the odd screen size that is the eee. Thus I am coming from a WinXP machine to puppy. As I mentioned, I can see the desktop (not the g...

VNC Server using EEE resolution problem
I trust this is not in the wrong area - my problem is that as a regular user of VNC server, my installation on my EEE using EEEpc (based on v3.01) does not display desktop icons. I can right click and see the menu but it would be nice to see my shortcuts when I first connect. I have tried vncserver ...

Stlchuck: I have been down this road. Firstly I formatted the usb to Fat16 (I used the HP utility to format a usb. A search will find plenty of options to download this excellent tool - runs under Windows. Then I reboot with the puppy CD and then run the puppy universal installer. Reboot, making sur...

To add my bit to this discussion... I found myself installing XP on the SSD and Pup301 on my 2gb SD. I did this thinking that I could not do without XP (I use a couple of odd utils that run under Windows). I changed the default boot order however, to default to the SD and so the Pup arrives without ...

I haven't yet because I was thinking of releasing another update with the trackpad fix, power-off fix, and a new look. What do you think? Too much black? Take your time :) The trackpad works fine for other apps. other than Firefox Yes, the power off fix would be marvellous. As to the black, not qui...

2.13: lost puppybackground.pup (Solved)
Can you help? I am using pup 213 (the raffy version for the eee (which BTW is terrific) and I 'did' have, for a few days until it went missing, a .pet or a .pup that enabled the option to switch desktop pictures and in other ways configure the desktop. My problem is I cannot remember the name of the...

SirDuncan is right. I simply put the ooo sfs file in the /mnt/home folder, rebooted and put the tick in the appropriate box as described above. NOP and pup files
I just know you will have an answer to this! I have totally fallen in love with NOP - I like the whole idea and as a convert from WXP it suits me very well. But as it does not use ROX I guess that means I cannot use .pup files. Is that correct? If that is the case, how do I install one of the MUST H...

Cups in Puppy 3.01 is broken for sure when attempting to print via smb. No option appears in the list of protocols for connection via samba. I have tried every option I can think of to 'trick' it into using smb: to no avail. If you discover a solution I would be glad to hear about it. Probably fixed...
