Extra file is generally hidden, so check you're looking for those. My syslinux.cfg: default vmlinuz root=/dev/ram0 initrd=image.gz append PSLEEP=25 PHOME=hda1 PFILE=pup100-none-262144 PKEYS=uk The PHOME is critical for Puppy-1.x Note that mine is hda1 since I'm running off an IDE-CF. If you're booti...

lock/unlock is for older versions of DOS

on WinXP you need to use syslinux.exe not syslinux.com

I put in the blackdown java while it was fresh. Worked like a charm. I put it to the task of running Runescape, and I couldn't tell the difference. I did have to manually put the symlink for the plugin into my firefox plugins directory, though. Which package did you use? Which path to your Firefox?...

Well, if I remove '0.24' using PCCC, then there is no longer a jwm in the path :/
Hence xwin fails...

My work-in-progress HowTo is here: http://wiki.inveneo.org/index.php/RunAsNonRoot I got quite far in 1.07 but got stumped by SegFaults which I didn't manage to track down (happened just after running xorgwizard - whether selecting xvesa or xorg). I will try again with 1.08 & be more persistent w...

the user should have the choice of not running as root. The problem here is that Puppy provides no easy and effective way of doing so. That is a shortcoming of the distro, no matter how you cut it: it should be there for those who want it. The question of whether you should be "allowed" a...

PCCC goes into infinite loop if it can't download a package

No chance to gracefully 'Exit' or even to try another Location :/

1.08 Unleashed bug: gftp wrong version

gftp on iBiblio is 2.0.16
1.08 actually contains 2.0.18 (& the Pupget list correctly has this version)

NB Why are there 2 versions of jwm listed in PupGet & on iBiblio?

Well I'm very pleased with the new wizard :)
I always found the last one too busy & difficult to read...the new one holds my hand much better & is simpler - very puppy-like :)

(I am just eth0 not wireless, so all 'swell :) )

1.08r1 - Resize personal storage file buglet

I reported earlier that when the Resize Personal Storage utility rebooted the PC it didn't remove /etc/.XLOADED & hence next boot would start with the CLI. Well with 1.0.8r1 it seems to have got worse :/ The first boot I got the message that /etc/.XLOADED couldn't be created as Read-only filesys...

This seems to me to meet your criteria, yet is already very advanced & usable.
Adding a few more developers to that project seems better than starting a new one...

NB My DotPup does set the JAVA_HOME env & adds to the path.
- both set to the /usr/local/jre symlink
(dotpup.sh attached)

I've found it perfectly stable for my use.
I didn't test it with an existing Java install as I didn't think that was it's target audience, but maybe I was wrong.

As requested:
http://partyvibe.com/flavour/jre-1.4.2.pup

This is the latest I could find: 1.4.2_03
Perhaps this is the reason it's smaller? (20Mb .pup vs 30Mb .pup)

Anyway, it works, play with it, let us know the results :)

2 bugs in 1.0.8beta which I've not seen others as reporting: (1) I need to re-run the ALSA wizard each boot (despite having a pup001 which saves other settings just fine) (2) When increasing the size of the pup001 (using the excellent utility), upon next reboot I have to type xwin manually (because ...

Looking fwd to the Freenode move :)
- Gaim isn't nice for hanging out on multiple servers (XChat is fine for this, but isn't the default Puppy which I need to use to develop on...)
