Satman, I wanted to restrict where the user could go to a limited set of urls. What I did was create my own set of buttons to populate the top bar that would automatically take the user to the 20 or however many sites I could allow them. At least it all worked that way when I set it up using windoze...

Two Step the answer
Thanks Uwe. Apparently the key is the two step installation you suggested with the critical element being the minimal Muppy first step followed by the more extensive upgrade. I skipped the part about rearranging the partitions despite the apparent advantages and it worked like a charm. It almost loo...

Puppy Needs a better installer
I know it has been mentioned before in this thread but I want to throw in my two cents worth. For me, one of Puppy's greatest needs is a better installation program. And by that I'm talking about the program that installs Puppy itself. One of the virtues of almost every Linux distro I've tried is th...

Invoking Opera in Kiosk mode
I've taken to starting Opera with a script that reads something like: #! /bin/sh opera http://www.yahoo.com -k -fullscreen -nomenu -nosysmenu As such, it goes to the page I specify and the issue of restarting doesn't happen. I wanted to leave the user with as few confusing questions as possible. Ful...

Muppy Hard Disk Installation and Mysterious error codes
I'm trying to install Muppy to my hard disk in a Linux partition with a full installation. After assorted tries, I get down to a message that reads like this: Now executing 'init' script on initial_ramdisk (Note: initial_ramdisk is retained and in /initrd after boot up) Loading kernale modules... do...

Pizzapup and a full hard disk installation
After playing with the Pizzapup version of Puppy for a month or so, I've decided to blow away the windoze system and turn the computer into a Puppy only machine. Since I didn't want to lose everything I had done, I copied the pza-save.2fs to a flash drive so I could easily restore all my settings an...

The lesson to be learned from this...
Well, I don't know what I did wrong but I wiped it out and did it again and this time it worked as advertised. My best guess is that I got a bad download.
The lesson to be learned from this is, probably, is to do the checksum on the download.

DSL Solution
I've been trying to get QEMU-Puppy to recognize my USB flash drive as a device so I can retain the changes and settings I've made. So far I've had no luck. DSL distributes a version bundled with QEMU and a fairly detailed set of instructions on how to set up what they call a virtual hard drive on my...

Beyond the obvious
Smokey, I'm a newbie myself so you may want to take my comments with a grain of salt. Gaim worked like a champ for me the first crack out of the bat. The hardest thing I had to do was to remember all the passwords and account names so I could add them to Gaim. The first step is so obvious that I hes...

What I did
I used Puppy for a while with an even slower machine (100 mhz, 32mb ram) than yours. The performance will never be very exciting but it can be done. There are a couple crucial things that need to be done. You must create a swap partition on the hard disk. 128 mb should be plenty for your machine. Ap...

Where I encountered it was the wget as called by petget... Or the automatic installer. All the other combinations seem fine but that one gives me the grey on orange. Wget is the only I've noticed the orange background on. Like I said, it is a low level problem. Generally the wget windows flash by so...

Text Colors in Pizzapup
I'm working with the Pizzapup and I have a low priority problem with WGET. I assume that wget is not something pizzasgood came up with directly so perhaps this is the wrong forum section for this question. Specifically all I'm seeing are orange boxes flash up on the screen with essentially illegible...

Try the video help files
I found the video help files covered this topic really well. I'm a newbie and this worked for me the first try:

There are a few places where the creator goes a bit quickly but you can step backwards on it as often as you like.

That got it
Thanks GuestToo. That seems to have gotten it. It appears that Pizzapup references Gaim.png but doesn't include it. It has Gaim32.png instead. So following your notes I changed the reference to Gaim32.png and everything acts the way I expected.

Pizzapup and Gaim
I have one minor annoyance that I would like some help with on Pizzapup. If I minimize Gaim, for all practical purposes, it simply disappears. Using the Vistablack theme, I see a golden square near the CPU and ethernet charts in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Most of the other themes sho...

Kiosk Browser
Todd, For the kiosk browser work I've done, I selected Opera rather than Firefox and I've been very pleased with that. Opera has several built in command line option switches that take a lot of the work out of setting up a kiosk browser and I found Opera to be a lot easier to customize. One key to a...

Never mind
I figured it out. In case anyone is interested, you go to the option menu (I got there by right right clicking on an object) and change the behavior of the drop and drag to give you options rather than just copying. Two of the choices will be create symlinks.

How do I create a symlink with a two button mouse?
A simple Newbie question... I know there's a simple answer. I have an ordinary two button mouse without a wheel and I want to create a symlink to a subdirectory in my windows directory. It seems like every combination either copies the entire directory or tells me I can't do that because the directo...
