Never mind. On trying the 3rd time, somehow it started to work again. Don't know exactly why it didn't work at first. But thanks anyways. ps. I did do a "cd /lib/firmware" and then "cd b43" and looked at the firmware files, and somehow that resolved the problem for subsequent boo...

I booted into 5.2.8 via live USB. On "Simple Network Setup", clicked on "wlan0" button. "Failed to activate interface 'wlan0. Sometimes this is just a temporary problem. Go back to the main window, and you can try again." Clicked on "LOG", got the following: A...

Broadcom wireless problem in Puppy 5.2.8

Hi, I'm using the new 5.2.8. When I try to start wlan0, it gave me this error: Aug 21 00:18:28 puppypc user.info kernel: b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 410.2160 (2007-05-26 15:32:10) Aug 21 00:18:28 puppypc user.err kernel: b43-phy0 ERROR: Initial Values Firmware file-format error. Puppy 3.00 works perfectly on my USB flash stick

Just loaded Puppy 3.00 (vmlinuz, initrd.gz, pup_300.sfs, zdrv_300.sfs) onto my AData PD7 8GB USB flash stick, and it works PERFECTLY! I didn't expect it to work, as previously the only Puppy that works is the 2.16 humongous-initrd version. I wasn't able to make a humongous initrd from 2.17 so 2.17 n...

Anyone has initrd-humongous of 2.17.1?

Has anyone successfully built the initrd-humongous for 2.17.1? I tried myself but the resulting initrd-humongous did not work. I need this to put on my 8GB USB flash drive to be multiboot with other live distros using grub4dos. The initrd-humongous is the only way I could get 2.16.1 to boot, and I s...

I was wondering if we're going to get an initrd-humongous version of 2.17 as well? That's the only way I can get puppy to work on my USB flash key with grub4dos as bootloader. Right now, I have 2.16 initrd-humongous on there. Would be great if I could update to 2.17.

Thanks for the advice! You're right - dotpups are designed to be easy to use, by clicking in Rox to install. I've come up with a better way of installing Truecrypt. First I boot all the way to X windows instead of using "pfix=nox". I install Truecrypt using Rox. Then I click on Menu > Shut...

How to install a dotpup package using command line pfix=nox?

After booting 2.16 using the pfix=nox boot parameter, I got a root prompt at the command line interface. I need to install a dotpup for the Truecrypt software. How do I do that? All the help articles I've seen talk about clicking on the dotpup in Rox. And I was wondering if there's a way to install ...

I tried using initrd-humongous-2.16.1-93952k in my usb flash drive using grub4dos to boot, and it worked really well. I think the problem I had earlier was that the kernel didn't wait long enough for the USB device to be detected, so pup_216.sfs was not being loaded. The humongous initrd has pup_216...

Thanks! Unfortunately, 2.16 fails to boot from my USB flash drive. So I'm using 2.15 CE. I just tried pfix=rdsh. It does get me to a textmode login. But when I then tried to continue booting into the graphical interface with "init 5", I got an error "Puppy not found on media usbflash&...

boot parameter for single user (root) textmode login?

Is there a boot parameter to boot into Puppy as single user (root) using textmode?

Thanks.

Teobromina, I've also tried putting 2.16 on my USB stick with other live distros and it hasn't worked for me either. 2.15 CE works fine though. That's what I'm using on my USB stick right now.
