Hi again, First of all, thank you, Patriot, Gedrean, Aitch, and all others who took interest in this post. I gather that the problem has been traced down and that it is (to a certain extent, which involves some wizardry not quite obvious to muggles like me :)) solvable. One question: do you think I ...

Thanks Béèm, but I'm afraid I am too much of a newbie to draw any conclusion from what you stated. I'm using a NTFS filesystem for my Windows XP laptop. Sorry if I sound repetitive, but why would Puppy see accented folders when booting pfix=ram and not when booting from pupsave on same HDD where Win...

Hi all, Allow me some self-quoting, Well, I've been doing a couple testings. I find that the issue is directly related to accented characters in folders (by coincidence, those special folders have accented characters in Spanish Windows). Let me outline what I've found: Puppy live boot with pfix=ram:...

Accented characters is the key!

Hi Puppy-teers :) Well, I've been doing a couple testings. Let me outline what I've found: Puppy live boot with pfix=ram: folders with acce...

Right on there, Patriot! I changed the name of the Windows "Mis imágenes" folders to "My Pictures" (in the realm of Windows). Then booted Puppy with my pupsave session and voilà! The My Pictures folder showed up. So you have been able to isolate the problem. Now I think we are cl...

HI Aitch, First and foremost, thanks for your time and help on this. I really appreciate your efforts and don't mean no disrespect to you. Your suggestions were all valid and quite logical for someone trying to help "from the outside". I did try them, unfortunately, to no results (BTW, I j...

Hi Aitch, I had already created a couple brand new pup_save.2fs files (with different names so as to tell them). This would preclude "corrupt pupsave" issues, I figured. Same problem with all of them. So I copied the pup_save.2fs file on the USB stick to the HDD and booted Puppy using that...

Hi Aitch, thnx for the pupsave fixing tip. Latest news about this problem: I tried fixing the pup_save.2fs file with the procedure you pointed to. The terminal showed some inode fixing or sth like that. Apparently, some fixing was performed indeed. But nothing changed as regards showing My Music and...

Hi everybody. First of all, thanks again. Aitch, you are right in that my post could be confusing. Sorry about that. The issue is that originally I was trying to rescue files from a corrupt (it wold boot, but was working soooooooooooooooo slow) Win XP on a laptop. I decided to do a frugal install on...

Thanks for the corrupt Windows tips -- they do look good. However, let me stress once again I am not dealing with a corrupt Windows installation here. Windows works FINE. It's just that booting Puppy with a saved pupsave.sfs session in the hard drive prevents ROX/pfind/find commands in terminal to s...

Thnx muggins. I don't know if you have seen the screenshots. The folders are there if I boot with the pfix=ram option. Besides, why would not pfind work the same as the terminal command you outlined? I cannot try it now since I'm at work, but it is not logical that pfind and ROX should find certain ...

Well, I attach the screenshot with the puppy pfix=ram option (sorry, it was not "noram" but "ram" instead. The My Videos, My Music, and My Pictures (Mis vídeos, Mi música, and Mis imágenes) folders are there, where they should be. I see that with the pfix=ram, the path is not hom...

Thanks steve_s for your prompt and detailed reply. Let me sum sth up briefly: I've been exploring Puppy from some versions now and I'm amazed at how good Deep Thought is. I am still a Windows user for many reasons, but I do use Pup on my Windows laptop quite oftentimes. So last night I was trying to...

I've been doing some more testing. I found that if I run Puppy from CD with the pfix=noram option the "missing" folders DO show. However, if I boot Puppy with a saved session, they won't. Maybe this info could be helpful to you. Thanks everybody again.

Hi Laie, thanks for the reply. The "missing" folders are positively in the Administrator user. I did use pfind and searched for specific known files I had been accessing recently from Windows. All I got are the .lnk files in the Recent directory. pfind won't find anything insided those fol...

Can't access to Windows folders with accented characters

Hello, I was trying to rescue documents and files from a corrupt Windows laptop. EDIT: I did a frugal install, saving pupsave.sfs on the single hard drive that laptop has. I mounted the drive and was able to see all folders. Browsed to documents and settings\administrator\my documents folder in the ...

Hello, I'm in the process of revisiting Puppy. I got a Compaq Presario 1710LA, fitted it with 512 MB RAM and an EDIMAX wifi PCMCIA card (it is a Ralink RT-61 inside). A couple of days ago I started using Puppy 4.0. I cannot connect to any wifi net, be it open or encrypted. Puppy sees them, the blink...
