that one you link to uses an ARM [unsupported] processor Check the link again - it actually uses a Vortex86 processor , which is x86 compatible. But it's true - the machine looks pretty much identical to many that come with ARM processors. However, I found this review from Engadget . I think it's t...

"Back in the day", all of about 2 years ago, when EeePC was a rumor on the web but not yet for sale, I put this together from a diskless ex-corporate machine off eBay for $50: Fujitsu Lifebook B2131 400 MHz Pentium 192 MB Ram 10" touch screen, 800*600 IDE-Compact Flash adapter - 1x2GB...

It would be nice if there was ONE official repository, AND the Puppy package handler was synced to this repository. The program listing in the Puppy package handler appears to be a woefully small subset of all the available .pets out there. Even Damn Small Linux has managed to do this better (in 50 ...

Note that JWM allows multiple "trays" (panels), so you can just add at the bottom of jwmrc an include for jwmrc-tray2, then create it with only buttons -- it can be positioned anywhere along the edges of the screen, vertical or horizontal. I tried this last night, but with no luck. This i...

Takk skal du ha Zigbert! this is a really great start. I like the features, and mostly it seemed to work ok for me. BUG: when in the add songs dialog, X windows (JWM) froze both times. I could still ctrl+alt+backspace to drop into the command line and restart x. I also thought it might be interestin...

Thank you for this .pet! I followed the instructions in the original post, and it worked first time on Puppy 4 beta (3.98 ). Magic! Now if only I could find a way to suppress all the ugly text spewing out when Puppy is loading... On my Mac, there's just a gray screen with an Apple logo while the mac...

A much better idea would be to have the ability to choose between those two styles. How boring the world would be if we all liked the same thing! But at least it seems you agree they should at least match each other, no? That's really what I meant - the two scroll bars don't match. Never mind if yo...

I'm adding a screenshot to make my comment clearer. See how the vertical and horizontal scroll bars look different? The horizontal one has a nice 3d effect, the vertical looks a bit odd..

Related subject? Vertical scroll bars look odd in Puppy 4

I noticed that the vertical scroll bars look a little odd in Puppy. I'm guessing they use the same pictures as those above. If you look at the horizontal bar, it has a nice 3d shaded effect to it. The vertical bar should also look like that, but because the graphic hasn't been rotated it looks like ...

Well, I solved it. Sort of.. I downloaded Puppy 3.0, copied the new files over, rebooted - and it all worked. I'm of course really happy to have Puppy working again, though I wish I knew why 2.17 never worked. Ah well.. The only changes I've made to 3.0 so far, is to edit .jwmrc and .jwmrc-tray to m...

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I get the same error as before: "ERROR, cannot find Puppy on 'idehd' boot media" etc etc.

Odd.. I still get that also when I exclude PMEDIA=idehd

What happens if you remove the # in #boot?
Sadly, I get exactly the same error as before. I commented it out, since this wasn't part of the original grub entry that worked (ie. prior to me swapping hda -> hdb)

Maybe you could add pfix=ram at the end of the line. From the wiki, this does not appear to be the right option: pfix=ram will run Puppy totally in RAM and ignore saved sessions/storage file(s) I tried it anyway, out of desperation, but it gives exactly the same error as I got previously. I entered...

Puppy won't boot (redux)

I had a similar problem earlier which was fixed thanks to your help. Sadly, I couldn't leave well enough alone, and now I can't boot Puppy any longer... Puppy was creating a swap file on my compact flash card, and to stop the constant writing from destroying my CF card I had pretty much stopped usin...

GTK theme chooser bug on 2.20 alpha

I haven't installed 2.20 yet, I've been running it using Q (kju emulator for Mac). Last night I tried to change the gtk theme, selected a theme and clicked ok. The theme chooser window closed, but then Puppy kept opening windows saying something like "gtk info" - I don't remember exactly w...

Thanks, rcrsn51! That worked first time. Odd that the syntax was so different for Puppy and DSL, but I don't know GRUB and I'm not complaining :D Is this now booting Puppy to run completely in RAM? Since I'm running from a compact flash card, I'm hoping to minimize the amount of writing to disk. (I ...

Puppy won't boot: GRUB "Error 15: File not found"

Hi, when I first set up my computer, I was hoping I could run Puppy. But since I'm a n00b and the Puppy installer didn't complete the GRUB setup for me, I opted for Damn Small Linux which automated the whole process (I hang my head in shame  ). Anyway, I thought I could just add an entry to GR...
