Thanks,
had a look at and it is clear that I am not knowledgeable enough :D to know why I'd want to change anything...
but the option is there - and thank you for the warning.

BTW now I have also installed Firefox (latest version) and it runs perfectly fine in my bionicpup

Yes, usb flash was formated freshly before installation. Just looking at the files you have suggested, and: syslinux.cfg has a line - CONFIG /isolinux.cfg isolinux.cfg has lines - append pmedia=cd grub.cfg has lines - linux /vmlinuz pmedia=cd so... I guess you were right about rufus not knowing abou...

The only reason I mentioned using Palemoon was to make the point that (in my opinion) bionicpup slowness had nothing to do with "heavyweight" browser, as some suggested.
I know I can and should update the browser, but it is not exactly my priority... :)

thanks bigpup, this is exactly what I did (eventually :D after a lot of faffing) the only confusion was that I had to change the driver in xorgwizard in the first place to get X to work at all, so that I could all that you describe afterwards I needed to run xorgwizard again and manually change/spec...

... You could try to use bionicpup64 with the (64bit) kernel from xenialpup64... Interesting suggestion, might try it, but if so than I will simply stick with xenialpup ... The internet browsers are huge these days and takes time to load... Yes, but I am using bog standard Palemoon as included with...

thank you enrique,
at the moment puppy seems to be using integrated CPU controller, rather than GPU
as for nouveau firmware, that's precisely what I do not want (plenty of nvidia driver threads about this on the forum)
at the moment monitor is connected to GPU.

thank you linuxcbon downloaded nvidia 440, no problem, but... nvidia-440.36_K4.19.23_x86_64.pet failed to install later edit : it was only when I tried to download it from PPM that I got the warning about memory size... (quickpet gave no reason for failure) resized, downloaded and installed correct ...

@ enrique unfortunately your suggestion didn't work - screen remained black despite being connected directly to motherboard rather than GPU @666philb tried pfix=ram nouveau.modeset=0 didn't work but.... went back again to xorgwizard to make sure I didn't miss anything and to my surprise option 4) in...

@ nic007
I can get to xorgwizard, no problem, but it's no use - it doesn't help me with the driver I need

@ 666philb
that looks promising - thank you for the pointer.
will try it tommorow

I can't try nvidia-440 driver because I cannot get Puppy started on the PC that is the problem (i.e. X doesn't start, so I don't get beyond boot menus)
and trying to do it on my laptop ends up in failure :(

I have installed bionicpup 64 on usb flash stick. Works fine with my laptop, but when I try to use it with my desktop it I end up at console without X running. I suspect it is to do with GPU? It is: GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER StormX 4GB Graphics Card My attempts to play with xorgwizard didn't make any d...

Thank you all for your advice and recommendations. I have tried Tahrpup 6.0.5 but it still caused problems on my desktop. I have tried different sticks with the same result. Having slept over the problem, I have eventually settled on XenialPup64 7.5 as the "solution". If Tahrpup was my onl...

I suppose the easy booting laptop is a legacy boot machine?... yes, hence my question in the title of the thread ...Do you know what bootloader is on the original usb? Grub4dos? Isolinux? Grub? If it is not grub4dos, you may have another configuration file... can't remember hwat I did when I set it...
