How to kill an unresponsive program? Solved
I've been watching Youtube on Tahrpup 6 using Firefox. Occasionally the GUI becomes unresponsive. The video keeps playing but the screen locks up. A google search suggested using Cntl+Alt+F2 to get to the command line to kill the unresponsive program. However, that option requires a login and passwo...

Can Chrome be set to update?
I've been playing with Tahrpup on my Aspire One netbook, and as usual Puppy delivers beautifully. I also very much appreciate that the new Quickpup let me install Google Chrome, which otherwise seems unavailable in PPM. Despite the privacy issues, Chrome is my prefered browser. I have notice that th...

hi malderson if it follows the usual roxiness.. r-click->'set icon' in /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/OpenWith and/or SendTo dirs, subdirs for the symlink (or use the 'customize' contextmenu thingie to find the path).. drag'n'drop from your local icon store. Depending on how used, you may need to...

How to change the icons in ROX's "Open With" menu? (SOLVED)
I recently upgraded to Lupu 5.2.8 from 3.01, and have found there are a great many improvements to customizing it to my liking. One issue I cannot find has to do with the "Open With" menu that can be selected when one right-clicks a file. I was able to easily add Adobe Reader to the menu, ...

Bruce: Thank you for your reply, and especially for the explanation. Your original comments didn't seem so much harsh as abrupt, but they DID point me in a direction that worked for me perfectly (this one time at least). It sounds like I might not be so lucky next time. I was totally surprised that ...

Hi malderson, Since you are using lucid 5.2, why not install your sfs to your full hd installation the easy way. 01micko's great little Quickpet does the work for you. Open Quickpet, and at the top click on SFS then Sfs_grabber which will take an sfs file and convert it to a pet file that can be ea...

Success
It worked. I mounted the SFS and copied the files to the appropriate directories in the HD file system, then unmounted it. Everything seems to work. I whimped out on the command-line method and used ROX to copy from directory to directory, which allowed me to visually check that I wasn't overwriting...

How to install an SFS file to a Full HD install of Puppy?
I just installed Lucid Puppy 5.2 as a Full HD install (I could not get a frugal install to work). I only have dialup available, so I used another computer with broadband to download the Libreoffice SFS file, and transfered the file to Puppy via flash drive. It mounts and works when I click it, but I...

Is Copy/paste possible with CUPS/pdf document?
I'm using Puppy 3.01 HD install. I have discovered if I print a document to PDF with CUPS I cannot then copy and paste the text from that PDF to another document. I can do so with a PDF exported directly from OpenOffice. Some web research leads me to believe there is a flag being set by CUPS to bloc...

I ran into a similar problem trying to install Firefox 3 in Puppy 3.01 (HD). Firefox 3 wouldn't work, and I had destroyed the working Firefox 2. Here's what worked for me without having to reinstall Puppy from scratch. Since I had used Pupget to install a PET of Firefox 3, I uninstalled it the same ...

Abiword PET for Puppy 3.01?
I'm using Puppy 3.01 as a full HD install, and since I've got it tweaked the way I want it, I'd just as soon not upgrade. I would like to upgrade Abiword to a version that can handle docx files. Is there a PET for Abiword 2.6.3 that will work on 3.01? The only one I find in the repositories is for D...

What we did differently is I first tried to use the Firefox-3.0.1.pet from the http://www.puppylinux.ca/bugs/ repository to do the install in Puppy 3.01. Usually those work quite well, but not this time. The missing dependencies were enough to keep Firefox from starting at all. I can no longer answe...

Let Firefox do it!
OK, I got Firefox updated to 3.0.1. Turns out the answer was to wait for Firefox to pop-up a notice that an update was available, then let Firefox do the update automatically. That seems to have taken care of the dependencies that are apparently missing from the PET package. in tpp/bugs. YMMV. I'd t...

Was missing dependancies
I decided to go ahead and try it. The Firefox-3.0.1.pet from tpp/bugs seemed to install over the prior version, but it turned out that there were a sizable number of missing dependencies, and Firefox 3 would not start. Chasing down and installing dependencies is not something I felt up to, so I unin...

Upgrading Firefox
I have Firefox 2 on Puppy 3.01. I'd like to upgrade with to Firefox 3 with the PET package from /bugs. Should I un-install Firefox 2 first, or will it just install over the previous version like it does in Windows and Macs?
