BTW -- what is TdeM? Just my website. On most forums etc. I'm now called tdem (sorta my initials). My website appears to be down a lot lately, maybe time to start paying for hosting? Nahh. You just reminded me of one thing I didn't like about fluppy. You couldn't just run 'xwin icewm' or whatever w...

Fluppy was simply amazing for netbooks. One of the few distros where everything worked out of the box. I think the combination you're referring to is the lxlauncher application launcher, with flwm window manager (titlebar to the side). I personally preferred IceWM. Set the taskbar at the top, and co...

As you say rox is not great as an actual panel. It is a good desktop/file manager though. What to do next depends on what version of puppy you have running and what you priorities are If your puppy has jwm as the window manager, it should be pretty easy to set up like you want it. There is a wizard ...

Although dillo is nice most of the time, you CAN use a "normal" browser on a slow connection. I have found that opera is a very suitable browser for on a slow connnection. You can turn off all plugins and javascript, even images if you want to. There is also a feature called "opera Tu...

I have had problems with opera save dialog not getting keyboard input. A workaround here was to switch desktops, click somewhere, switch back and try again.

I remember having trouble playing minecraft a while back The cause was the window manager. I believe openbox doesn't play nice with minecraft. Not sure if this is what slacko uses though. If it is, then the only solution is to switch window manager.

Re: Saluki 14 - wine, icewm, compiz

I am not sure if I want to make the transition from icewm to xfce. Is there a version of icewm recommended for this puplet? Just did this myself. Get icewm from here . Then open the "session and startup" from the control panel. Under autostart add icewm, using the command "icewm --re...

Just took saluki for a test drive on my toshiba nb200 (standard atom 10 inch netbook). All hardware appears to work! Some initial thoughts: - Splash screens that pop up are a bit obtrusive, especially listing all the partitions etc. - The mouse is enormous - starting frisbee from the control panel, ...

Here's my current theme. It's based on one of MU's themes (Thanks MU!). From memory I added animated buttons, changed some colours and fonts, and of course made it more shiny. I've been using this for over a year I think. (And yes, you do get used to buttons on the left of the title bar :-) I have i...

Often they are just not coded to support this. Alt + mousedrag is usually the easiest way. I use icewm, it's configured so that maximizing a window hides the title bar. And the task bar can be hidden by clicking on an arrow. This gives maximum space available on the screen. Also Alt+F11 maximizes an...

I would just leave your existing puppy, put the new one in a subdirectory (folder). Now for the bad news. Grub2 can't really be edited directly like grub or grub4dos. As soon as you boot into bodhi all changes will be wiped. It is meant to do things "automatically" but I doubt it will add ...

Installing a second puppy from the CD is perfectly safe, as far as overwriting files goes. They are pretty much designed for this purpose. The thing is you must tell the boot loader that a new puppy has arrived, by editing the boot loader's configuration file. How this is done depends on your boot l...

I only had to edit ~/.xinitrc

put the line

Code: Select all

xcompmgr -c -t-5 -l-5 -r4.2 -o.55 -C &
just before the line

Code: Select all

#exec $CURRENTWM
I think xcompmgr only does drop down shadows though. I believe something called transset does this.

Kino 1.3.3

Here's a .sfs for Kino, a simple lightweight movie editor. This is not as intuitive as windows movie maker, but once you "get" it, it's quite easy. http://www.tdem.co.nz/linux/files/kino-small.jpg This has been made in true puppy fashion from a slackware package, with dependencies scrounge...

@ tatamata : I think you may be using grub2, from Ubuntu, rather than Grub legacy or Grub4DOS. This is a whole different beast and in my opinion to be avoided. Try installing grub4dos from within puppy linux, make sure to note where you are choosing to put the menu.lst file so you know where to find...
