Some PDFs have named pages i.e. if you open them in some viewers (e.g. Adobe's) instead of displaying the logical page number they display a number in a different format (perhaps i, ii, iii... in the preface and 1, 2, 3 in the main body of the document), and/or some other text. I spent quite some ti...

Re: attach files to a pdf

If you are interested in "pdf portfolios" i.e. pdfs with attached files, pdfdetach can extract them. But mutool can do that and also attach them in the first place. Poppler now also has a pdfattach. Sejda has an option to unpack attachments, and an option to create a "portfolio/colle...

You can use it for scripting in Treesheets

Is it possible to make left pane window in rox? If it happened, I very like it. Not with the version Puppy use as far as I know. But using the bookmarks button gives you basically the same functionality. Not really on topic: I don't know if it's ever been mentioned but there is a very obscure softw...

Eh? You are confusing jwm the window manager with rox the filer.
I also use only one, fixed sized window.

No, not via usb (unless the android device has two separate ports, which a normal phone doesn't). Normally the phone will tell you this when you enable tethering. Although I always thought that you could get a special dock, at least for some phones, which could provide power and connectivity at leas...

The key here is that the attack requires an elevation of privilege but if you can elevate privileges you can do many different attacks and so called "bashware" is just one option. Not to mention that it is surely a more complicated option. The danger is that either Microsoft won't support...

As for systems getting extinguished by WSL, the more likely victums are cygwin and mingw Yes - I'm not using them these days because I have WSL - even on a non-technical level, I figure it's easier to justify to anyone who has an issue with me installing it on my work machine i.e. I can say "b...

WSL 2 is a true testament to how much Microsoft loves Linux!

Assuming you don't need alsa or some special kernel module the most likely problem you'll notice is poor IO performance. Looks like some (most?) of that'll be changing soon; not sure about alsa though. Today we’re unveiling the newest architecture for the Windows Subsystem for Linux: WSL 2! Changes...

Sorry, I haven't been getting forum notifications lately for some reason. Even changed to using a different email address instead of Gmail and it made no difference.. That's the official line, but it's trivial to install an x server on windows, and then gui programs work great. Which X server do you...

I thought when you run 32 bit programs on 64 bit linux you only have a 64bit kernel, and both 64 and 32 bit userspace. So they are probably talking about running with only 64bit kernel and only 32bit userspace. The 32 bit kernel would be included in the iso to support 32 bit machines, but you only e...
