Yeah, I never monkey with balance unless I'm trying to debug a speaker problem, and then I usually just use the balance knob on my amp.
I'll look into this when I get off work. 'Bout time I put together a PKGBUILD for it as well.

Hi. I was just popping in to check some PMs and saw this thread. I'm not really around anymore though. A year and a quarter ago I started working on my own sort of Gentoo-like system based around Linux From Scratch using amigo's src2pkg for the compiling. But then I think I finally got tired of play...

It looks like it shows all the settings that alsamixer shows, except that alsamixer apparently shows duplicates of the mic boost and front mic boost. The full names are clipped so I don't know what exactly is going on there, but I don't think that is relevant to his problem anyway. His problem is de...

I don't have any experience setting up anything as extensive as what you want. My only experience with remote servers is ssh, ssh with X forwarding, and VNC, and of course none of those are what you are looking for. As far as setting up multiuser in Puppy goes, it's pretty quick and easy to do a poo...

Re try/catch vs goto: The jump in try/catch has limited scope. A goto can jump anywhere, but an exception in a try can only jump to the catch part, not to an arbitrary point in the codebase. The ability for other people to understand your code is very important out in the real world, as is the abili...

My point is that a small group of fanatics on the other side of the world can't do much to us. It sounds hard of me to ask people to just deal with it, but that would be better for everybody involved. How many people have lost family members to terrorist attacks within the country, vs. those who los...

I am not one of those who believes that 9/11 was concocted by our own government. However, I do take issue with the following: 9/11 was an Act of War Bullcrap. A small attack led by a small group of individuals does not a war make. It was not an act of war. It was an act of terrorism. You can point ...

Re: searching
The search function seems pretty much useless in this particular forum. It will take you to the post, but if the post has 108 pages, then good luck finding your search item there. For some reason, it just seems to land on the first page Choose to have it display results as posts rather than threads...

As far as falling victim I think anyone who becomes afraid is falling victim to the radical movements you refer to. Yep. The idea behind terrorism, whether authentic or manufactured, is to cause terror in order to effect changes. Scare people so that they renounce their ways. Scare people so they a...

When you say it is squashed, do you mean that it is suffering distortion? Or is it pixel-perfect? In other words, is it using 768 pixels to display 768 pixels, or is it trying to display 768 pixels in a stretch of screen that is less than 768 pixels wide? Have you tried playing with any special Fn t...

Also, and this is a biggie, cell phones SUCK. Voice quality on most calls I get are awful, I would rather text than talk if I can't freaking understand half the conversation. If it isn't an actual bad connection it's wind or ambient noise, or someone who doesn't realize that their voice is overpowe...

Aye, I should have specified that I was referring to the Linux version of Flash when I called it crappy. I don't have much experience with the Windows version, but I have enough to know it performs much better. Lazy bums. If you have a tab or window that's running flash it could well slow down the r...

Well put Pizzasgood, although I wonder who controls the DRM policy, the library or the government. My guess would be that it's ultimately up to the individual library, but they probably have to comply with various security policies in order to qualify for various government funding packages. Maybe ...

Flash is closed and crappy, so I wouldn't be too surprised. You could try using Wireshark to monitor your computer's communications to compare what's going on between sessions with Flash enabled and sessions without, to see if there's a difference (comparing accesses to non-flash pages of course). B...

Ok, I started writing the following before the above post was posted. None of this is really relevant in that case, since we were talking about the wrong software to begin with. Oh well.
