Configured differently -- go to JWM Desk utility and play. If you want the Launch Bar, go in that utility to the Options tab, then check Accessory Tray Launch Bar and set that to 12, or 18, depending on what you want. Go to Launch tab to select the launchers you want in there. Check out the other ta...

Would it make sense to use the GalliumOS kernel, modified for puppy's needs? GalliumOS runs well on the Acer R11, with full sound support (absent in all Puppies tried so far). The list of Chromebooks it works with is extensive. See full compatibility list here: https://wiki.galliumos.org/Hardware_Co...

Maybe we could try as a group project (those owning Chromebooks -- or anyone else who wants to join in). I mean it might start out as the blind leading the blind (at least in my case), but if we ask others here who do know about kernel compiling, we could get answer that help us to move ourselves al...

There is a well developed independent means for using numerous alternate OS's in most Chromebooks already. Please read, if inrerested: https://mrchromebox.tech/ After using any of those methods, the main issues found with running Puppies on Chromebooks seem to revolve around making the audio work, a...

My biggest suggestion is to make the next release a Chromebook-friendly Puppy. There are tens of thousands of Chromebooks in public schools even in my rural state, and parents are now buying them in large numbers as well. It would be nice to be able to boot something other than the ChromeOS, and bre...

Hello rcrsn51, Actually I have tried it. I bought a USB dongle and also a compact battery powered bluetooth speaker for the R11. Both as a result of your suggestions a couple years ago. That combo is impractical to fit into my daughter's backpack and set speakers up at her desk for each of her middl...

enrique, no need to delete your post, nor does anyone else need to since they are useful to others, and were meant well. In answer to your suggestions, there is already in existence a well developed means to dual boot a Linux (or Win) OS with ChromeOS, or even replace the machine's full ROM contents...

I appreciate the general info Bigpup, but I intend this thread to be used by people to post specific models that they have tried which work with a Puppy of some sort. And not other linuxes. I'd like this to be a list thread, rather than a help thread, and its main purpose is to help make Puppy-centr...

Which Chromebooks Work with Puppy?
If you have a Chromebook that works with some version of Puppy please list the Chromebook manufacturer and model here, and the version of Puppy you can successfully run on it. Please also mention how well it runs and if there are any issues. I'm starting this post because I've run out of solutions t...

@ vtpup:- There is, of course, a much simpler solution.....one which will allow you to run Mint from an ext4 partition, and yet still use Grub4DOS in its normal mode of operation......... Mike. Thanks Mike for the chainloader explanation. Might try that some day. (I think I've seen the chain...

Just to update you guys: Yes, yesterday I had already installed Mint (Debian version -- LMDE4 Debbie) to a new ext3 partition sda8, and it worked fine. The working legacy grub stanza was simple and straightorward: title Linux Mint root (hd0,7) kernel /vmlinuz root=/dev/sda8 ro initrd /initrd.img boo...

Thanks Baldronicus, and you are spot on re. the steps taken so far and the restoration of the existing system. I mainly decided to quit here because I don't want to co-opt this thread. But if this discussion is helpful or useful for someone else dealing with problems in side-by side-installation of ...

Uh messing with Windows at that level is not a real fun idea for me. I'd rather let sleeping hogs lie. I use Win7 for very few things, maybe a few times a year. Incidentally Grub4Dos uses legacy Grub, not Grub2, gleaned from my recent readings, and it's no longer maintained. Which explains why menu....

@ vtpup:- Ah, you're straying into territory outside of my remit, I'm afraid..! My personal usage of Openshot is limited to fairly simple edits....mainly joining clips together with transitional effects, prior to rendering them into a workable format for YouTube, when I put tutorials together. Can'...
