Paying one of my not so regular visits here and I have seen the news of Nooby. He and I were probably the leading tub thumpers for Frugal Linux on NTFS and I will miss him greatly. Apart from the forums we used to occasionally converse via PM. This was the only way we met but I count him as a true f...

Three Fingered Salute for Puppy Linux
For the first time ever I have had my Puppy Linux system hang up. I was browsing using a frugal install of Lighthouse Puppy (32 bit) on an NTFS partition. When I made to display a video full screen the machine hung. Nothing happened whatever keys I pressed. I tried CTRL-ALT-DEL, CTRL-ALT-TAB, CTRL-C...

It took me ages before I updated Lin'N'Win for Windows 7. First I took ages getting a new PC with Windows 7 on it and then when I did I was as scared as you guys about messing with the new boot process. I did have some hiccups along the way (because I didn't get my drive references right) but I didn...

Nice to know the old Lin'N'Win is still being used. Of course, once the process is done once it is easy to install all sorts of Pups afterwards. One thing I would say if you have lots of trouble installing. Try the Puppy on CD first to make sure your problem is not with your hardware, particularly t...

It's nice to see some names from the earlier days of Puppy on this thread. Especially welcome is Nathan F. I think I agree with most of what you say. There is a pardigm shift happening in computing at the moment. I try to fathom where it will lead but I know as much as the next man about that! It se...

Start Puppy WITHOUT Internet Connected via Ethernet
My PC has an ethernet cable to a modem router permanently attached. When Puppy starts it automatically connects to the Internet. The browser doesn't open but my modem shows the internet line as active. Is there any mod I can make to stop it doing this and when I want to go on the internet I connect ...

I have a query relating to usage of Lighthouse Puppy. I am actually using the 32-bit version but I suspect the same thing would apply to the 64 bit version and this seems to be the thread that is read! When I boot Lighthouse on my machine with an ethernet cable attached to an always on modem router ...

Thanks for the comments about Lin'N'WinNewB. As writer I much appreciate comments. I do have a comment regarding the choice of Puppies on Lin'N'WinNewB. I find it almost impossible to keep up to date with the latest and greatest. However, the ones I stick with I have used and know work for me. What ...

Nooby, I have been looking at Trisequel, which was on Linux Format cover disk 171. It is totally free software so includes gnash rather than flash. Used in offline mode it was really impressive. I could play all the mp3, mp4, wmv and flv files I threw at it. Flv simply played by (double) clicking th...

One of the problems with running an Amiga emulator is that you need to get a copy of the Amiga ROMs in file form for it to work. Only the Kickstart and Workbench are emulated. You have to pay money to get the Amiga ROMs in file form. Otherwise I would be running an Amiga emulator without question. I...

Only 2 things as far as I can see. 1) You are more likely to get packages from the Precise repository working with Precise and packages from the Slackware repository working on Slacko. So if your favourite software is not in both repositories then your choice is made. 2) The developers of each versi...

It is interesting that Puppy was the inspiration to Jeff but it seems to me from Jeff's original post that it was running in RAM that he liked and the patent was something to do with net loading apps. I don't care really. The whole American patent system is mad - it discourages the small guy and can...

Ah - you don't really want to mount all your partitions. You want to mount a specific one automatically at start up. That makes sense. I think you have your own answer and the one provided by 666philb to do that job. I would suggest a new post about the new query of why an entry in /etc/fstab is not...
