removing the boot folder

This will save me a lot of work to find out how to include self-made packages. welcome. One other bit of information I want to share is about the boot folder. It is still included in the CAT build. I tried to remove it and the symlinks to vmlinuz and initrd.img in / using a hook in the CAT module b...

including selfmade deb packages

saintless: I think for now this puppy deb packages from Fred will work without problems on standard debian wheezy and squeeze for multiuser: http://www.smokey01.com/saintless/Fredx181/frisbee_wheezy.deb http://www.smokey01.com/saintless/Fredx181/gtkdialog-0.8.3.deb http://www.smokey01.com/saintless...

Hi saintless, I don't know if you prefer a separate scripts for reboot and shutdown, but you can have them easy as start menu buttons from /usr/share/icewm/preferences: # Command to shutdown the system ShutdownCommand="/sbin/poweroff" # Command to reboot the system RebootCommand="/sbi...

I just wanted to add that while running the build scripts for full CAT-041, screen output in the console will stop. This happens while updating a SSL certificate from the Turkish government. Probably this happens because Xterm is running without access to the right UTF8 locals. However the script ru...

konaexpress, good point. The CAT-0.2.iso is still on, it is reduced to the basics. Download for puppy user it might be a hassle that X is startet as user, but starting a root shell and 1 or two root Rox filers will be enough for puppy root feeling... The scripts have the KITTY module, which should b...

Hi Toni, I shifted the order of the download links and removed "boldness" from the iso link, so focus should be clear now! I appreciate your comments.

I don't know if you prefer a separate scripts for reboot and shutdown Tony, I am just ignorant and of course there will be much better possibilties to improve the system! The keyboard switcher is not from me, but from Tierry Monteil. I just went with the most simple solutions I could imagine. I don...

Hi Toni, I thought I post the iso too, because to run the scripts is best from a debian system. The iso and the scripts together with working internet and debian repositories constitute a self bootstrapping system. Anyhow I do not plan to post any new isos in the near future, I will use CAT-0.41 whi...

Building new CAT - including local repo

I am in the process to build a new CAT, which should have some more software. I want to include some of the debs from Debian-Wheezy-light. I tried to create a local apt repository on my computer and use this to host the debs. I tried to create a sign key, but *LOL* system won't let me, it says: Not ...

Hi Toni, I just answered Anikin's questions. He wants to use /live/cow with Cat. yep I know, thanks for answering :D , I am not regulary on. It would be interesting to build CAT with config/CAT DISTRO='squeeze' I think squeeze uses live-tools 2.x, so this would be a /live/cow distro cheers emil

Hi thank you all, anikin replaced user with root. Works like a charm. :) makes life easier on a private computer. Extract initrd1.img from Light-Wheezy2, use it with Cat-0.2 and it is done it is fine to modify everything with backported live-build, different initrd etc. For my personal builds with t...

Hey Joe, i think I didn't found it, I am still searching. Anyway it feels that a light system is possible and with the build scripts you have a blueprint to transform it easily, customize it and also build for different arches. Yes - doing it the light way is not so easy, and here one can learn a lo...

short description how the scripts work

build.sh install executes apt-get install live-build live-boot live-config syslinux kpartx apt-cacher as explained earlier, it might be a good idea to symlink the /var/cache directory to a dir somewhere on a disk to avoid clobber. If you do build.sh (module1 module2 ... ) then in a first step the c...

Thank you Toni,
yes you use real low ressources - I used a machine with 1GB RAM.
actually having the cache on a disk will help a lot, because it won't download the same packages from the net over and over again.
cheers

I think for long time forum-members Joes remark is clear, but anyway I really don't want to go down the same road and wake up all those past arguments again. People do what they do with passion and want to have fun. This is a fresh project and no harm was done and no quarrel stirred up to present. I...

Mavrothal - superb! I leave the CAT-0.2.iso then as my demo iso! Has anybody tried to use the build scripts? Hi Big Bass, there is a reason my subtitle is cats and dogs - even they may become best friends. http://boxen.math.washington.edu/home/emil/sdl/catanddog.jpg It would be great if you could ha...

I just uploaded CAT-0.2.iso. http://boxen.math.washington.edu/home/emil/sdl/CAT-0.2.iso This is built without the "home" persistence module. So the live medium will be mounted read only. If you have a frugal install, you can do the following: sudo mount -o remount, rw /lib/live/mount/mediu...
