Hi Bill_too.

It's good to see you're still testing the ex-factory Pups. Thanks.

What happens if you type < leafpad >, < ppm > or < sfs_load > from console in this slacko?
Does it output no end of error messages from libglib and GTK before launching the app?
I'm just wondering if the issue of two instances of glib (as pemasu put it) has been solved.

TIA.

Thanks for the scrot, Billtoo.
This Puppy system does not spew junk after those commands, eh?
Excellent.

Hi Billtoo, are you happy to share the resultant iso? 32bit Slacko's are my favourite puppy so I'm keen to give it a whirl.
cheers!

Hi @Billtoo

Would be interested to know which branch and version of woof-ce you used and whether audio cd autoplay works in your build?

Thanks
ImageLxPup = Puppy + LXDE
Main version used daily: LxPupSc; Assembler of UPups, ScPup & ScPup64, LxPup, LxPupSc & LxPupSc64

Hi peebee,

Pmusic plays audio cds fine in the 32 bit version (using a kernel that I built in the kernel kit.
Pmusic also plays fine in the 64 bit version which is using your latest kernel.

I did both builds in the testing branch of Woof-CE.

I guess the version would be the testing branch of the date I posted, 64 bit next day I think.
Thanks.

Edit:I found this in my work directory:

BUILD_FROM_WOOF='testing;ff76581c;2018-07-14 19:50:18 +0800'

Editagain: I compiled the newest 4.4 kernel and switched to that, working okay.

Slacko64-woof-CE-master-26July2018 build

#1293 Post by belham2 »

Thanks to Billtoo, Sailor and other's inspiration, just did a Slacko64-master-build an hour ago using my old core i3 laptop (took about an hour) and everything seems to be working fine so far. Using the lastest huge S64 kernel:

Code: Select all

▶—— Linux Kernel ——◀

Kernel Release: 4.9.30
Build Date: Sun May 28 11:48:56 AEST 2017
Build GCC: 5.3.0
OS Support: GNU/Linux
Architecture: x86_64
SMP Enabled: Yes

Kernel Command Line:
pmedia=usbflash psubdir=slacko64 pfix=fsck

Will need some time to figure what's been updated from Micko's Slacko64 build he released last year. So far, it seems like a lot or near everything....importantly Firefox is latest 52.9 ESR, openssl is up-to-date, and many other things.

Thanks to all for the build inspiration, and thanks to the Woof-CE team.

**followup**

Well, I am getting random freeze ups in the Slacko64 I did above. It especially occurs when trying to do a remaster with the woof-CE DEVX loaded. Not sure if anyone else is seeing this, or if it is just because I used the very last S64 kernel from 2017that is still the latest in the woof-CE build if you want a 'slacko' kernel and not xenial kernel. Hoping Micko comes out of retirement and releases an update to his Slacko 700 32 & 64 builds.

@belham2

what GPU you're using ? In case of Intel GPU you could

open a terminal and type

Code: Select all

xorg_intel_uxa.sh
or
install this PET

the script and the PET are doing the same, they are generating this config file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
don't forget to restart X.

I did a remaster of this install:

video-info-glx 1.5.3 Wed 1 Aug 2018 on Slacko64 Puppy 6.9.9.9 Linux 4.4.145 x86_64
2.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

X Server: Xorg Driver: intel
X.Org version: 1.18.3
dimensions: 1920x1080 pixels (508x285 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes

direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) G41
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 11.2.2

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
Core 0: @2003 1: @2003 MHz

It's large at 940mb but that includes the devx and peebee's 64bit chromium
sfs.
It didn't freeze at all when doing the remaster, also have norgo's pet
installed which seems to improve the intel graphics in streaming video.

/initrd/mnt/dev_save/custom-puppy.iso

I haven't tried doing an install with it yet, chose custom settings so
it may not work on another pc I guess.

I tried installing the remaster to a pc with an Nvidia graphics card
and it would boot but x wouldn't start, ran xorgwizard but couldn't get
to the desktop no matter what driver I selected.

It dawned on me that norgo's pet might be the cause, Barry's Easy pyro
had a similar problem with nvidia so I installed the remaster to a 32gb flash
drive and it booted to the desktop fine on this pc which has intel
graphics.

video-info-glx 1.5.3 Wed 1 Aug 2018 on Slacko64 Puppy 6.9.9.9 Linux 4.4.145 x86_64
2.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller ( rev 18 )

server glx version string: 1.4
OpenGL vendor string: Intel Open Source Technology Center
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) Ironlake Desktop
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 11.2.2

Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07GHz
Core 0: @1200 1: @1200 2: @1200 3: @1200 MHz

I had to load the devx and chrome sfs files, put gkrellm in the startup
folder and load the gkrellm themes, also had to configure
vlc, mplayer, and kodi to run as spot.
Had to setup jwmdesk again.

The remaster is running well now.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: I did another remaster this morning on my old acer core2quad
which was already running Slacko64, the iso it produced is 1115mg.
I installed it to the hard drive of my Compaq desktop:

video-info-glx 1.5.3 Thu 2 Aug 2018 on Slacko64 Puppy 6.9.9.9 Linux 4.4.145 x86_64
0.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 430] (rev a1)
