Unable to Remaster X-Tahr |
|
i'm sure i'm just doing this wrong, but can't boot from remastered x-tahr
My steps:
Method 1:
- Mount xtahr 2.0 ISO.
- Launch "Remaster Puppy live-cd".
- Choose mounted xtahr 2.0 ISO for source files.
- Choose no on all customization-steps.
- Choose no on last step, to make iso.
- Use pburn to burn iso to DVD
Method 2:
Same as above, but copy my save-file to temp folder before making iso.
Method 3:
Same as above, but burn iso to usb drive with unetbootin
Method 4:
Same as above, but use ISO-Master to make iso from temp folder created by remaster-puppy. Then use pburn to burn that iso to DVD.
Nothin boots.

Try this: LazY Remaster Suite - - remastering the main sfs from settings made completely in a GUI.
After remaster is done, just copy the new main .sfs around where ever needed.

Thx, but it says " it comes as a RoxApp". I'm running xfce/thunar.
So, Remaster Puppy live-CD doesn't work?

Are you doing this when booted up in Xtahr?
If running Xtahr and using the save.
Remaster Puppy Live CD should use what is in the save, because the save is part of the running Xtahr.
No save selection is needed
Quote: | - Choose no on all customization-steps. |
This could be the problem.
Does Xtahr normally have a zdrv sfs?
If yes, you need to choose to make it.

Try making the iso.
It gives you a good backup of the re-master.
After making the iso.
Look inside it and see if it looks like it has the needed files.
Then use Pburn to burn a live CD using this iso you made.
You are sure the place you used to store the re-master process on, had enough room?

Just click the AppRun script inside its directory and it will work in thunar.

- yes
Quote: | No save selection is needed |
- what is "save selection"?
Quote: | Does Xtahr normally have a zdrv sfs?

- yes. when Remaster asks "do you like to make zdrv_xtahr_2.0.sfs, the separate driver file", i click "Yes".
Next, Remaster says "After examining /tmp/root, click OK to add /root in puppy_xtahr_2.0.sfs file"
Next, Remaster adds /tmp/etc to "the .sfs file".
Next, i proceed without adding anything to isolinux.
Next, Remaster says to check contents of /initrd/mnt/dev_save/puppylivecdbuild/. I do see zdrv file there.
Next, Remaster says "click Yes to burn CD, click No to make iso". I clicked "No.
Remaster says "the iso was created". But i cannot find the iso anyplace. This is a new problem.
With LazY, I got a dir containing:
initrd.gz
puppy_my-xtahr_2.0.sfs
Is that correct? How to make the iso?

Yes, that's correct.
Just mount the original .iso, copy the files to a different directory (for the .iso name), replace its initrd and the .sfs with the new ones. If you didn't rename the Puppy by Lazy Remaster Suite, the new initrd.gz is NOT needed.
Puppy should have a right-click option (or even pburn) to create a bootable .iso (boot.cat is the dependent file for a bootable .iso)
Do you really need a .iso to be created?

THX |
The customized remaster version saves the hardware settings/configuration for your specific computer. You will want to use this version if you are going to use the remaster on the same computer because it saves you the trouble of setting things up again.
The pristine remaster version does not save the hardware settings/configuration for a specific computer. You will use this version if the remastered iso is going to be used on other/different computers (eg. distributing it to other users) In this case, the hardware settings/configuration for the other computer will have to be set up afresh.

still can't remaster.
but i CAN remaster if i boot x-tahr without a save-file.
any suggestions?
synopsis:
* Got the Success message, but did not get an iso
* free space in savefile: 5 GB
* "genisoimage" is in /usr/bin
* working directory: htfs harddrive, 100GB total, 40GB free. Puppy has write-access.
* when i run Remaster Puppy live-CD from menu, it asks me to choose working directory. I pick a partition with plenty free space.
* I do get output, but the sfs is abnormally small. the size of the base sfs in /initrd/mnt/dev_save/puppylivecdbuild is 5.0 MB. Should be hundreds of MB's.
* After Remaster Puppy reports that the iso was created, i cannot find any iso on /initrd/mnt/dev_save
* I don't get the progress window below, when remastering with my big save-file.
* If Boot without the savefile and do a remaster with the builtin remaster, I got the progress window below. At the end, i got an iso file.
any ideas?

Hi.
I've updated the LazY Remaster Suite.
Additional option to make a new .iso file.
No mounted .iso or cd necessary at all.
All files/dirs from boot directory (where the Puppy .sfs is located) are copied
into the build directory. So, make sure everything is there.
Note: you could end up with a huge .iso, if there's lots of additional .sfs modules located at the boot directory (where the Puppy .sfs is located).

i was able to make an ISO from a new, unmodified x-tahr that has a save-file.
so some mod that i did on my modified x-tahr is breaking the remaster.
how to compare installed package list?
