How to install Adobe's Premiere Pro 2.0.....

#1 Post by Mike Walsh »

Installing & running Premiere Pro 2.0 under WINE

Evening, all.

I discovered this would work almost completely by accident this evening. I was at a bit of a loose end, and was browsing around the downloads page for the CS2 suite (just for something to do, like!)

I've tried various of the suite's components at various times over the last couple of years, with varying degrees of success. I wasn't even too sure what Premiere Pro 2.0 was, till I had a squizz on Wikipedia... Video editing, eh? Hmm... I'm starting to get into video-editing quite a bit now, so naturally, this piqued my interest.

I'm getting quite handy with Openshot, for instance, and know my way round it rather well by now. This, though.....hoo-hoo! It's a completely new level for me, if I'm honest...

First impressions are that most functions appear to work OK. Unlike with Photoshop, however (which I did have prior experience of), I have never used this before....so I have no idea if it's doing what it's supposed to! I think I'm going to have quite a steep learning curve with this, y'know...

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to kiramm, we have a download page to access for the CS2 suite. See here:-

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 228#942228

You do need to create an Adobe a/c to access these, & you'll need to tick the 'agree' checkbox, before you can access the download links.

Once there, click on the language you want (English for most of us, probably). Scroll down, and the link for Premiere Pro 2.0 is at the bottom of the list. It's a .zip file, not an .exe, but that's alright; this is what you want.

Don't forget to copy the serial number, too; you'll need this for the install itself. Once you've highlighted it, it disappears; for most folks, this would mean copying it out manually, but we can make use of Pup's middle-click-to-paste feature, so just paste it into a text document, and save it where you can find it.

---------------------------------------------------------

Once you've unzipped it, and are ready to get underway (use the 'setup.exe' file.....not 'Setup.bin'), the install is pretty straight-forward. Enter your 'user-name' (which can be anything, and make up a company name while you're at it). Then, copy/paste the serial number into the appropriate box.....and click 'OK'.

Unlike most CS2 installs, this one installs each section with a separate installer, so there's a fair bit of mouse work during the install, since you need to accept, and 'OK' every time.

All things being equal, you'll find it in the WINE directory, under the Adobe sub-directory. Click on Adobe Premiere Pro.exe to see if it'll start; if it behaves itself, it will. You have to fill in a couple of forms before it starts properly; don't bother registering, because the activation servers were turned off years ago. The work-space proper can take anywhere up to 35-40 seconds to appear the first time, so be patient..!

--------------------------------------------

If you're running version2013's 'standard' WINE, I've included a MenuEntry.pet for this. It installs to 'Multimedia', in the 'AudioVideo' section. (If you're running Shinobar's 'portable-WINE', you can still use this; just modify the paths in /root/my-applications/bin and /usr/share/applications to suit).

I've installed this in Slacko 570; frankly, I was gobsmacked that it even installed, let alone runs. I just thought I'd give it a try for the hell of it; as things stand, I think I'll be making copious use of the comprehensive 'Help' section!

Have fun.

Mike.
