How to uninstall Slimjet .pet? (Solved version 20 working)

#1 Post by pp4mnklinux »

Hello everybody:

I'm a slimjet user, and since I changed my puppy to XENIAL 7.5 X64 I needed to change my xenial version.

Someone recomended me to install slimjet16 in .sfs file. I did it, but flash doesnt work correctly (a lot of stripes) so I want to uninstall it, but...

I CAN'T FIND IN PUPPY PACKAGES UNINSTALL.

WHERE IS IT? How can I unistall? Is there a pet that works with my xenial?

I NEED YOUR HELP !!

Thanks a lot in advance.

You don't uninstall .sfs packages, you unload them.
Use sfs-load-on-the-fly to unload the package (as suggested by Ally above).
After you have unloaded it, then you can delete the .sfs file from your system.

Flash player is not used very much these days by browsers and websites.
Multimedia playback uses other methods.
In recent Chromium based browsers, flash is disabled and enabling it is not easy.

I don't do anything with 64bit Slimjet.
Maybe others are producing packages.
I did test 32bit Slimjet 20.0.4.0 recently and it was working, so it should be possible to make the same adaptations to the 64bit .deb and get it to work in Xenial 64.

go to Menu->Setup->Load-on-the-fly and run it
unload the sfs
now using the Rox-filer (file manager) delete that sfs.
done

I would try to just boot in PUPMODE=5 (RAM only) or boot a different Puppy and then remove the SFS Module, if there's no other option to unload and remove it.

What isn't existing can't load at next boot, right?

Oh, by the way: do you run a full install?

+1
Is Xenialpup a full install or a frugal install???
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

I'm wondering if the slimjet sfs didn't load because it was a 32-bit version and pp4mnklinux recently changed to Xenialpup64? To run a 32-bit SFS on a 64-bit system requires that the 32-bit Compatibility libs be loaded (sfs) or installed (if converted to a pet). I doubt if running any clone of google-chrome is a good idea if it needs to run in "compatibility mode". Google-and-clones throw up enough road-block for Puppies without adding that complexity.

At any rate, as has already been said, all that is necessary to remove it is to delete the SFS. That it doesn't show up as loaded means it has never become part of the system.

In the absence of a recent 64-bit Slimjet, let me suggest Mike Walsh's Iron. For Xenialpup64, you would one the one with the designation "tahr" in its name. Its the 'right-most' one on this page: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... qRa_HcT3Su. Placing your mouse on the name which appears will show the full name.

One of the nice things about slimjet was the 'speed dial' it opened to. You can create pretty much the same effect on any chrome-or-clone by adding the 'Speed Dial 2 New Tab' extension. Easier still is to use https://start.me/start/us/startpage as your Home page. [It, however, will not allow you to add your own webpages if you do not create an account].

Frankly, however, despite that it is always calling home, I use Mike Walsh's slightly newer Google-Chrome. You'll find it here, https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... QVfrDnr5w-. But read the last few posts on the thread, starting here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 90#1001490

SOLVED.

Now I have the 20 version.

The procedure was the following:

I installed the 15 pet, then the 18 and finally I went to the official slimjet page, I downloaded the tar.xz version https://www.slimjet.com/es/postdl.php?v ... 4&type=zip

I unpacked it, put it at the OPT directory and now it works

(I NOW THE PROCEDURE IS NOT "FANTASTIC" BUT IT WORKS FOR ME)

THANKS EVERYBODY

SLIMJET FOR XENIAL .PET (SOLVED version 20 working)

#11 Post by Sky Aisling »

Hello pp4mnklinux,

Now that you've had Slimjet v20 for a while. How do you like it?

I'm running the way old Slimjet v7 that comes in the tarhpup64-6.0.5 Quickpet download. I like it alot. It doesn't seem to have a lot of issues so I am hesitant to mess with upgrading it, but, it is so old compared to v20. I'm debating on downloading the tar of v20.

Hi, Sky:

I have been working with it for a time, and I can say that it gives me NO PROBLEM and it's working fast with my xenial.

I'm using Firefox and Palemoon with it, but SLIMJET continues being my main browser, because of the fast with the mouse and really useful options.

Give it a try and decide by yourself, but for me.... FANTASTIC.

Sky

EDIT: I did get xenial64-7.5.0 installed to a flash drive.
See thread: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 81#1011381 :D

Now I can experiment with placing Slimjet into the OS. Thank you for encouraging me to continue.
