The dn2800mt has a vga section that hates linux or linux hates it. I have tried many linux and they all come up with a black screen except PEAR OS.
Anything from puppy run on this thing?
Which Puppy for DN2800MT vga video?

@ earlytv:-
Mm. From reading up on the mobo specifications, looks like your best bet might be to try getting hold of an older PCI-e x 16 card, since it only supports the very early 1.0a interface.
That board uses built-in Intel graphics, which, it's true, can be an absolute pain in the a*** to get right. My old Dell Inspiron 1100, which is from around 2002/3, and uses the 845Lchipset, needs the
...parameter added to the kernel line in order to work properly. Having enabled that, however, the old girl still gives an amazingly crisp, sharp picture.....despite being around 15 years old.
(I would never have figured that one out if it hadn't been for Micko publishing that small tidbit of information in the release notes for Slacko 5.5...)
I suspect you'll need to do some reading up on the older Intel chipsets in order to find out which modesetting parameter needs to be used.....
10 to 1 that'll be what's needed.
EDIT:- Further research shows your chipset probably has the GMA 500 Graphics Controller for video output. It's going to be a case of figuring out when the Linux kernel began to support that chipset.....or maybe when it dropped support for it (which is just as likely.)
As ondoho over at linuxquestions.org (I have an A/c over there, too!) told you last night, and as I've already stated, some research is required. This entry on the startpage.com link he gave you yields this article from Phoronix, which may go some way toward explaining the unfortunate mess you've got with that particular board's chipsets....

Poulsbo always was a bloody nightmare for Linux users, mainly due to the fact that the drivers involved were not Intel 'in-house' ones, but rather out-sourced from a third-party.....and moreover, were never that well-maintained.
Unfortunate, but true, I'm afraid.
Mike.

What processor?
What hardware is being used for graphics?
Is there a graphics card?
If yes.
What is it? Make and model?
Mike Walsh is guessing you are using Intel graphics.
If a version of Puppy does boot to a black screen.
What he suggests usually works for Intel graphics.
Do you understand how to use that boot option?

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

This setup is aan Atom N2800CPU/Marshalltown board with PowerPC graphics (video). The video is not linux friendly. There were work-arounds to get 2D viewing working, but not 3D. IIRC One of the 'buntu's had such work-around.

Hi earlytv,
Putting together the information you've provide, you have a dn2800mt which PowerPC graphics and that when you try to boot Linux it comes up with a black screen except PEAR OS. It would be helpful to know which version of Pear OS functioned. But they are all based on some version of Ubuntu. That provided a clue.
Without knowing which version of PowerPC is employed, we can't be certain. But there's a chance that the GMA3650 chipset (or some GMA35xx--see below) was used since about 4 years ago Linux kernels did not include drivers for it [reading texadactyl post of September 6, 2013. https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2136281 against the later post (#13) of mail2o on April 22, 2016. https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php ... e1304f0510 At any, the suggestion of that post was Ubuntu versions 16.04, whether Lubuntu or Xbuntu.
Xenialpup is a Puppy which is binary compatible with Ubuntu version 16.04. The latest version of Xenialpup is 7.5, http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 178#899178, but you might also want to try musher0's remaster of an earlier version. It was remastered in order to employ a kernel which placed a lower demand on available RAM. http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 619#971619
If computer resources (RAM and CPU) are a problem see this thread for earlier Puppies which were able to handle the Intel GMA-3650 video chip, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 807#697807. Two Puppies are specifically mentioned as functioning, Upup-Raring and PhatSlacko. Links to their ISOs can be found respectively at http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 017#691017 and http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 317#713317.
I'd also suggest that you try Sailor Enceladus's Slacko 5.7.1, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 794#976794. I have an Asus laptop with an Intel GMA 36xx video chip. When originally acquired few Puppies would adequately handle graphics. The two mentioned above did. Later, I was able to "upgrade" to Slacko 5.7. I still have Slacko 5.7 on all my computers as the fall-back workhorse when I just want to get things done, albeit my 5.7s have been 'upgraded' to Sailor's 5.7.1 which provides some security updates.
