Windows Programs -- how to set them as Puppies' Default

#1 Post by mikeslr »

Hi All,

As many of us are Windows refugees, bringing with us a fondness for programs with which we are familiar, and as many of such programs can be run under Wine, I'm please to point out that perdido has provided detailed instructions how (at least in some cases) we can setup Puppies to use such programs as Puppies default handler for the files those programs can manage.

Perdido's "How to" pertains to the fine image manager ifranview, http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 24#1008324. The section of that post dealing with the editing of /usr/local/bin/defaultimageviewer should be 'generalizable'. If a default-handler already exists in /usr/local/bin, something similar to his 'recipe' for specifying ifranview as defaultimageviewer should work.

Of course, take appropriate precautions to backup any current file if it doesn't and you have to revert.

The info to make it work came from here

It should be applicable to a lot of different programs.
I have been using it for acdsee.

The files in /usr/local/bin/ or /root/Choices/MIME-types/ should be "adjustable" for launching wine programs as default specific file extension handlers.
