I think you have to mount the iso (click it) before you start that installer. Then you have to navigate to inside the mounted iso.

Subject description: Oh, oh! Nope! Help! Home file gone

Thank you foxpup,

But, that did not work, big time!

The desktop became overlaid with nascent icons, saved passwords auto fill got wiped out and several other setups are gone.

Unable to use peasyscale to reduce size of screenshot to send showing desktop overlay. Unable to delete attachment showing screenshot. Other apps not responding.

I'm going in to see what I can recover now.

EDIT: The home file is gone: "File doesn't exist, or I can't access it:/usr/local/bin/defaultfilemanager."
Unable to take screen shot to send.

Subject description: Question: Leave what's left of system up or reboot?

I need some triage here...

Console is gone also.

Unable to boot up usb backup drive to reload saved files from last week. Edit: system is now recognizing usb back up drive.

Shall I leave the system up without the homefile?
or
Shall I reboot and see if that brings the home file back?

EDIT: OK, here's what I'm planning on doing:
reboot and run in RAM. I'll replace the current save file with a backed up save file from last week. I keep my important files on sda2. The boot file is on sda1.

EDIT: Why do these things always happen on a holiday weekend?

OK, I rebooted in RAM and removed broken save file and replaced it with a save file backup of last week. RESULTS: the good news is the home file and the console are restored. the bad news is both the browsers Palemoon v25 and Slimjet v7.05 are not responding. The browser files are there in /opt but not activated by the system.

Any advice of where to go next? Shall I start another thread to recover the brower(s) or keep going on this thread?

Thanks for any suggestions.

FINAL EDIT: I did recover the broken tahrpup64 thanks to my saved save-files. The system is back to almost as it was. The only exception I saw was that Palemoonv28 browser was not initiating. Slimjetv7.5 browser is working well. I uninstalled the non-responding Slimjet then I installed it again using QuickPet. The Palemoon issue was resolved using bigpup's suggestion: http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pet_packages-xenial64/palemoon-28.0.0-x86_64.pet
Now, maybe I can get back to enjoying the rest of the holiday weekend.

I'm sorry you had such a bad time with this.
I cannot imagine what happened.
Good thing you have recovered pretty well.

Hi foxpup

No worries. I always learn something new when I mess up. Smile

Now onward to figuring out why UI won't install Xenial64 to a flash drive.
I wonder why Universal Installer in Tahr64-6.0.5 only recognizes Tahr64 files and not the Xenial64 files?
EDIT:
I remember something from the dark ages that rcrsn51 wrote that spells out how to manually make a bootable flash drive. His post is here:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=54566
I'll go explore his idea.

The Universal Installer in any Puppy version will only install the Puppy version it comes in.
Tahrpup64 6.0.5's Universal Installer will only install Tahrpup64 6.0.5.

Download, install, and use this program to install any Puppy iso.

Well, bigpup you've done it again!
I am writing from Xenial64-pup-7.5.
Yapi installed Xenial64 perfectly on first try.
The process was smooth, easy.
Congratulations to the both of you who created this easy install program.

Now on to see if I can get the Slimjet browser and the Palemoon browser to update to current versions.
And, to explore Xenial64. Very Happy
Question: How come we have a squirrel on the desktop? No adorable puppy images left? or is Xenial some kind of squirrel?
