Subject description: Where we laugh at ourselves a bit using the 12-Steps model.

(Adapted from:
https://12step.org/references/12-step-versions/aa)

As the title and sub-title say.

Quote:
Step 1
I admit that I am powerless over the PuppyLinux Forum — that my
life has become unmanageable.

Please paraphrase below, as you are inspired by your Superior Power Wink,
the remaining 11 Steps.

IMO, the end result may be more comical if this is done in order (Steps
1 to 12), with one forum member inventing a paraphrase for each Step.
Or not! Very Happy So please feel free to do as you like.

BFN.

Step 4
"Made a scratching and flealess total inventory of our sfs'ses"

(ps; i have to wonder if those 12 steps were written by a dyslexic - there seem to be many mis-spelled references to our higher power "Dog" Smile )

Sorry musher0,

I'm stumped at Step 6. It's taken a life-time for me to not only recognize the defects of my character, to be at peace with them, but to appreciate their being essential to my unique identity. As I'm unwilling to surrender to any group or entity my right to such uniqueness I'm unable to contemplate a fitting way to suggest the benefit of their removal.

Or to put it another way, I humbly admit to being prideful of my short-comings.

Hi mikeslr.

I would think your remark is about about Step 7: "Humbly asked Him to
remove our shortcomings."

Rather than Step 6: "We[']re entirely ready to have God remove all these
defects of character."

Although IMO they both cover the same territory, more or less.

And you are perfectly right in the absolute, for your own personality
and life-path. Perhaps I should say "a non-addict" is perfectly right to
come up with a remark such as yours considering his/her personal
life-path.

But in the case of an AA or NA, or even an OA, that "short-coming" or
"defect of character" is drinking or taking drugs, or "eating one's
emotions", aka over-eating ... All of which ultimately and really may land
the person in a coffin... Another take entirely on "short-coming".

~~~~~
But if we put our mind back in parody mode, considering our compulsion
Laughing to use PuppyLinux and / or this forum?
I know, that posture is irreverent, and I beg forgiveness from members
of 12-Step Fraternities for having been so bold as to initiate this thread.
However, being able to poke a little fun at oneself or at one's addiction is
a recognized sign of mental health. I hope members of 12-Step
Fraternities who are advanced enough in their recovery process will not
take offense.
Maybe following an approach such as a_salty_dog's or greengeek's would
get you "unstumped", mikeslr? Wink
Or it is possible to stop the thread at this point, even have it erased, if
enough people think it is not in good fun.
BFN.
Yes, musher0, your insight into empathy and tone helped.
Perhaps for Step 6,
""We[']re entirely ready to have the Puppy Community remove our proclivity to Distro-hop"
"Our proclivity to Distro-hop?"
I never thought of it that way, but hey, pretty good, mikeslr!
Interesting viewpoint. Given that the 12 steps have a strong emphasis on "God" (clearly a mis-spelling of Dog) then how does that indicate "spiritual" rather than "religious" ?
At the moment I'm hung up on step 8 - making a list of all the people I've harmed. Sheeesh - this may take some time!!
Think of all that bad coding..... Twisted Evil
Hi greengeek.
Not any particular God: not the God of the Muslims, not the God of the
Hebrews, not the Christian God, not Buddha (he never pretended to be
one, but he's revered as one by a segment of Buddhists). I once knew
an AA lady who believed her Higher Power was an entity in Outer
Space; can't remember the name of the entity, but New Age stuff.
Not religious in the sense of "not attached to any religion"; more along
the lines of "theism": say, of Voltaire's "Great Clockmaker" or Paul
Tillich's "Ultimate Concern" (as I view it). As well, if one is an atheist,
this Higher Power can be Love, or the Human Brotherhood, etc... In our
case, I think "The Kennel" would be a likely choice. Laughing
As to "making amends", greengeek, have you noticed? You do not have
to make any if they'll do more harm than good.
IHTH.
I went the other way with this.
12 steps of Windows freedom
Step 1
We admitted we were powerless to stop using Windows.
Step2
Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could overcome this obsesion.
Step 3
Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Puppy Linux as we understood it.
Step 4
Made a searching and fearless inventory of our computers.
Step 5
Admitted to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our addiction to Windows.
Step 6
Were entirely ready to have Puppy Linux remove all these defects of character.
Step 7
Humbly asked Puppy Linux to remove our computers shortcomings.
Step 8
Made a list of all persons we had asked for help, and became willing to make amends to them for ever questioning the power of Puppy Linux.
Step 9
Made direct amends to such people wherever possible.
Step 10
Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
Step 11
Sought through informed reading of the Puppy Forum and meditation to improve our conscious knowledge of Puppy Linux.
Searching only for the true power to be free of Windows.
Step 12
Having had a awakening of freedome as the result of these steps,
we will carry this message to all.
We are Puppy!
Resistance is futile!
