Windows wifi drivers Versus linux ones

I have a friend who uses a pc with windows vista and he can't update to palemoon 28. In the past he used puppy lucid I gave to him in another older pc. Now I have given to him a cd with puppy tahr 6.0.6 and my friend refers he can't use it because the wifi driver is too slow than the windows' one. He uses the "tethering" hotspot wifi of his smartphone to connect. Can it be possible? Could a more recent puppy with recent kernel solve the problem?

I don 't know the answer. It costs very little to burn a CD of a more recent Puppy and try it. Boot it with the puppy pfix=ram boot option so it doesn't try to look for a Save file.

I have received mail from my friend. I can guess he has the realtek 8180/8185 wireless (rtl818x) using in windows vista the realtek 6.1105.0717.2007 driver built by WinDDK.

The rtl818x driver has been part of the kernel for a long time. There may be improved versions in newer kernels.
