Yes to both. In Linux a folder is just a specialized file. I've already forgotten how to create them under Windows -- probably something easy. But anyway, under Puppy Linux just file-browse to where you want a file or folder, Right-Click an empty space and from the popup menu select "New", then either file or folder and give it a name.

From any application click File>Save, then use its builtin file-manager to browse to where you want the file or folder to be. Remember, that applications by default expect to save in your Home Folder, which is in /root. So you'll have to work your way to /mnt/ then select /home [your home-drive/partition > see previous posts] then wherever you want to save the file. Most applications enable you to create a folder while using their file-browser. Usually a button saying "Create Folder" in the top-right corner.

Hey Man!

What's the problem just trying to create a folder on the usb flash drive?

You are in Linux!

Ever heard of a Operating System that doesn't continue to work after creating a folder?

Ever heard of a Operating System refusing by default to create folders anywhere (if not caused by strange/special problems/issues, like read-only mounted file systems)?

There's already three (3) pages of help to make you able to do a copy of the your usb flash drive to another one. Several times I told you just to follow mostly_lurking's advice: you didn't! At least you did one day...

Come in a hurry, get you la..y a.. up and try stuff by yourself!

What's the next question you will come up with?

Am I allowed to store files into folders I made on the pen drive?

Yes, ITSMERSH, tone it down a bit. You're becoming the problem, not the solution. :)

Am I moving just one step too far crosssing the border of "puplitical correctness"?

Ok,

I'll try to keep being quiet until this topic has reached its 10th page.

Then I will return to this topic using my rights to comment and to use "free speech"!

if I can put files on the pendrive, like photos and stuff from both Windows and Puppy.
Yes.
However, Windows may not be able to if you make the USB drive partition a Linux format. (exit 2, 3, or 4)
Windows needs Windows formats. (Fat 32 or ntfs)
There are programs that can be added to Windows that will let it see Linux formats.
Here are some to add support to Windows.
https://www.howtogeek.com/112888/3-ways ... m-windows/

Puppy does not care what format you use.
It can read and write to any of these formats.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Thank you to everyone who helped me to understand what I'm suppose to do, even thanks to you ITSMERSH for giving me a push.

I made the bootable copy just now but it will only boot into linux if I don't copy the puppysave file. If I copy it from the original stick to the new one I get an error when I try to boot that says something like this:

unable to read inode bloc

Is there a way I can copy the save file to the new drive?

What operating system did you use to copy the save?
Puppy Linux or Windows?

Don't copy the save file when in use by the Puppy.
Boot the Puppy into RAM only to copy the save file.
This means: enter puppy pfix=ram at the boot prompt or
to the boot menu entry in menu.lst (or whatever you
are using as the boot loader).

Making Copy Of USB Puppy (Solved)

#51 Post by linuxwannabe »

Thanks for the replies. I figured out that it had something to do with copying from within puppy linux so I copied it in windows and it worked. I have my USB copy so I guess I'll mark this thread as solved.

Thanks again folks for your help and patience.
