Hi Folks - I just picked up a Dell E7250 off eBay for a STEAL ($200 with warranty until August, and ownership legitimately transferred to me by Dell - off lease machine that was OBVIOUSLY kept in a dock for a year as it is seriously brand new looking...).

I slapped an SSD into it, and it flies. Got Ubuntu running, but when I installed Xenial (latest 64 7.5 PAE), it REALLY flies, but the wi-fi is unrecognized. I saw a few threads, but could not find the exact driver, and Ndiswrapper is not working for me either.

Anyone know of a working driver out there for this card/build?

The exact card, as reported by lspci is:

Broadcom wifi adapters present a recurring problem under any version of Linux.

slyphy reported the same problem under the 'stock' Tahrpup and advised xorg problems following (I think) Mike Walsh's suggestion. But bigpup suggested using using Tahrpup 6.0.5 pae or nopae, providing links to broadcom driver pets for both versions. http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=114816

By the way, there are very few applications that will run under Xenialpup that won't function under Tahrpup --sometimes it takes a little bit of hunting for libs. So, you'll loose very little if you have to follow bigpup's suggestion.

But if you were lucky, either upupbb or dpup-stretch may already provide the necessary Broadcom drivers and firmware OOTB.

Please report back both successes and failures. As I said, Broadcom wifi is a recurring problem. Knowing what works, and what doesn't, will help future Puppy users with problems similar to your own.

It works fine in Ubuntu out of the box.

Hi again Flash858,

I frequently forget to mention the 'debian dogs'. These are not Puppies but rather 'pure' debian or ubuntu Live-CD systems configured to provide 'the look and feel' of Puppies, including their frugal installation, small size and resource demands, and use of SaveFolders.

Of course, if you only an operating system unable to access the internet you'd probably have a a 'catch 22' situation: the need to download the necessary files from the internet in order to download files from the internet. But, as you have a functioning Ubuntu Mate 18.04 and Xenial 7.5 64-bit [on a different computer?], you should be able to leap over the horns of that dilemma.

Any chance this laptop has a off/on switch for WIFI?
Puppy does not control this. It will not turn WIFI on if it is turned off.

No wireless switch on this model, just the keyboard combo, which has no effect in Puppy. Interestingly, the wi-fi light is on, and I am posting this running off of a live boot of Bionic dog, and still no wi-fi.

Running rfkill list all gives me all no's, and another odd/interesting fact is that all puppies (I have tried 5 or 6 so far) do see the 4G LTE chip.

I just cannot buy a Wi-Fi driver...sigh...

You're welcome, Flash. wl drivers are kernel-specific & I've compiled several, but not this one - I suggested it for simplicity - mine are a manual install.
