Hi fishmanluvslinux,

Sorry that your experience in your last post was different than in your prior post. If you provide details, perhaps we could figure out the reason. But no matter. Tahrpup 6.0.6 was my first attempt at remastering a Puppy which could provide satisfactory performance on low spec computers.

Since than several things have changed. There are several slacko puppies and the 32-bit bionicpup (formerly upupbb) which run well on low spec computers. Radky has published the very polished dpup-stretch 7.5 and josejp2424 has made available DPupBuster (solid, but not yet as accomplished as dpup-stretch). Moreover, jamesbond has provided significant advice on how to run modern Puppy in Low RAM systems, http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 98#1020898 and my exploration of the realtime kernels rockedge has published suggests that swapping kernels to them will also help. http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 93#1018293

I can think of only one reason to use Tahrpup rather than dpup-stretch, and that is if dpup-stretch doesn't include the drivers needed for your hardware. And even then, I'd recommend swapping kernels to get the drivers you need. [Drivers are kernel-specific. Firmware, if absent, can be obtained from any Puppy which has them].

Lastly, if Tahrpup 6.0.5 worked well and you have to stick to it, the alternative of just updating the applications is available. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 963#982963. Then you can also install nic007's Remaster Suite or Shinobar's RemasterX, and easily do a remaster updating the applications and removing drivers and firmware your computer doesn't use, resulting in a Tahrpup requiring less RAM than the one with which you started.
