can't connect between 2 bionicpups using gftp

#1 Post by gychang »

Need to transfer files in home network. From my laptop need to connect to 192.168.1.9 (main PC), port empty, 21 or 2121 doesn't connect. Tried root woofwoof, anonymous/anonymous also does not work. Both rebooted before using using gftp. What am I doing wrong. ip address of main from ifconfig.

Hello, gychang.

Is one of the computers set up as an ftp site? Even as a mock one? And is the other one
acting as the incoming client?

I don't hink gftp is meant for this type of transfer. Also, I can tell you that gftp is extremely
fussy about passwords.

Finally, pardon my brashness, but since this seems to be an "in-the-same-house" network,
is there anything wrong with using a good old thumb drive as the go-between device?

My 2¢. BFN.

Instead of ftp, consider this tool.

It is packaged as a DEB, but should click-install into Puppy.

In Puppy, you can drag-and-drop the source files/folders.

Sorry. That package has a fake .gz extension. Rename the file WITHOUT the .gz and click-install it.

Are you using the latest Bionicpup64 8.0?
Have you done Quickpet>Info>Bionicpup updates?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

What does this have to do with getting Gnetcat installed and running?

More misinformation.

OK, do not start from the latest bug fixed version of Bionicpup64, when trying to get this working.
You would be surprised what gets fixed by doing the bionicpup update.
When you do get the program installed.
Seems trying to use it in the latest version of Bionicpup64, with the latest updates, would be a good idea.

Great idea. Instead of the simple peer-to-peer solution, recommend a complicated client-server solution.

Unfortunately, gychang never responded to my instructions for renaming the download file.

sorry about the late response. After deleting the gz extension it did install fine, but for some reason I could not get the program working properly, gave up for now thanks for trying to help this old guy...

You understood that lzop is a dependency, that active firewalls should temporarily be disabled and that rcrsn51's pkg needs to be installed on both sending and receiving machines, correct?

I'm guessing "some reason" his program didn't work as expected is because you didn't thoroughly understand these conditions.

Please, take a moment and put some effort into your response..

I tested Gnetcat in BionicPup64 and it works fine. Lzop is built-in via busybox.

But people who have been deluded into using a firewall will always have trouble with network-related activities.
