also if i try to blacklist nouveau in puppy setup, i cant find it!
What is "safe mode"? Do you not have an option "no X" or "nox"?
How have you installed Puppy to HDD? What bootloader are you using? Grub4dos?
If so, look for menu.lst on your boot partition.
Open it as text, find the entry for Puppy, copy it, add pfix=nox to the kernel line, change the title and save menu.lst.
On next boot you should have the new entry. The boot should stop on the command prompt.

also
Puppy Setup > Startup > Modules
using grub4dos and no i dont have a no x or nox option

This one is for your card
https://archive.org/download/Puppy_Linu ... nial64.sfs
it is a 28MB Download

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverR ... 3709/en-us
listed under supported products

To load sfs file
Menu---Setup--->SFS Load on the fly (or some such)
When rebooting save to save file if its frugal install, if its full install just reboot
Your nvidia driver should be installed on reboot

To setup nvidia
Menu-->Setup-->Nvidia Xserver settings
your menu may be that new style thing that is different but should be similar.

I am not totally sure this driver still supports your hardware.

On the desktop is the Quickpet icon.
Quickpet>Drivers
Click on the Nvidia 340 button.
This should download, install, deactivate the nouveau driver, change over to using the Nvidia driver.
Make sure to do everything it asks.

When you get booted using the Nvidia driver.
Installing the Nvidia driver run package will install programs to control the graphics. These are not the normal ones used by Puppy.

menu>Setup or menu>System should have icon for it.
Nvidia X Server Settings control program.
It controls the settings for Nvidia graphics hardware when using the Nvidia driver.
This is very good at making setting adjustments.
Use it for making any setting changes.

"Warning"
On the X Server Display Configuration Window is an option:
Save to X Configuration File
DO NOT USE THIS OPTION
It will make an xorg.conf file that does not work in Puppy and replaces the working Puppy xorg.conf.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected

Do not edit to give new info.
Add a new post.
That makes the topic show as a unread topic when we check view posts since last visit.

If Xenialpup64 7.5 is a frugal install.
When you did the first shutdown. It should offer to make a save.
Anything you change or install goes into the save.
At next boot the save is loaded and added to the file system.
After you make a save and boot using it.
If you did a frugal install to a HDD. It is doing auto save anytime you change or add anything.
It automatically writes to the save.

SFS packages do not go into the save.
They load or unload and stay separate from the save.
SFS-Load-on-the-fly controls this.
SFS packages are a different way to use software in Puppy Linux.
It does not install, but loads or unloads into the file system.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
