As some of you know Puppy Linux is the Linux of choice for the Multidimensional Tmxxine project.

Ron Cowen writes of the ekpyrotic theory:
"A parallel universe moving along a hidden dimension smacked into ours. The collision heated our universe, creating a sea of quarks, electrons, protons, photons, and other subatomic particles. It also imparted microscopic ripples, like ocean waves crashing on a shore."
. . . meanwhile here is proposed Time Travel design . . .

to whom it may concern
I was thinking aboot space today, no..... not space!
Conserving space, In doing so I thought aboot Netscape,
it seems netscape is a tad bit smaller than mozilla
it is said to use more space and resources, which I never encountered,
Communicator, has an editor, and all that other neat stuff.
Has anyone successfully installed Netscape, or Communicator???
If so, or interested please reply, as it might be a way to shed a couple lbs.
off puppy, maybe just a thought!!! I'm just wondering something to do,
it is always nice to see your options, maybe netscape has fallen behind?
I watched the news the other day something I hardly do, and they estimated
95% of computer users use internet explorer, and the other and about 1%
use Netscape, and the other 4% are divided between moz/fire and safari
and others, so netscape at least has some potential, else it would'nt have
1% of the market!!! Maybe that is why I'm wondering aboot it.
Damn they got me with another subliminal message errrr!!!
There was no other post aboot netscape so I saw an unused spot and took it
sorry Lobster

Heaven is on the way, until then let's get the truth out!
A better question: Does anybody really likes Netscape / Communicator?
I used to be a Netscape user in the early days but now I find it bloated, slow and bugy. You install something and it installs 20 icons to your desktop, has countless toolbars and it's not very aesthetically appealing.
Have you tested a version that is not bloated with the IM, Editor, e-mail, etc etc etc? I want a web browser to be a web browser. If the other applications are nicelly integrated fine, but I did not find that about the Netscape suit, just a bunch of tools thrown together.

I also am an old Netscape user and I agree with you rarsa it has become a bit bloated.
I find Mozilla in Puppy fast enough for my needs and it has mail and composer, although I do like Firefox and Thunderbird.
My favorite browser is text based but these days you must have a GUI based one and also accept cookies, to access all sites.

Agree with Ian
I used Opera for many years. Firefox came along and I made the transition - often going back to the familiarity of Opera (which I believe is a better browser - BUT closed source which is not to be encouraged because long term it is not viable) Then I started to increasingly use Mozilla (which is incorporating Firefox and Thunderbird - and really should update composer with NVU)
The surprise for me is Dillo. It is a part of Puppy and rather uniquely for a small browser understands javascript (that may be the latest or .pup version)
One of the really geeky things I did (extra geeky) is use the e-links browser from the console to access and post to the forum.

Now that might open a can of worms.rarsa wrote:A better question: Does anybody really likes Netscape / Communicator?
I have been a longtime Netscape user since version 1.x. I would often have more than 100 Netscape Communicator windows up at a time with only 32 MB of physical RAM. Netscape was a very efficient browser back then (and Windows NT has always been efficient with memory.) Even to this day, I still use some versions of Netscape rather frequently. Nothing beats good old Communicator for e-mail.
However, I do agree that the more recent versions aren't up to par anymore. The extra desktop icons are only a minor annoyance since they are easy to delete. Can't say the same about IE and its junk dlls, web integration, etc. (Yes, I know about LitePC.com, fortunately.)
I was extremely disappointed with Netscape 6.0, which made me stay with previous versions for a while. The 7.x versions are alright, but not nearly as efficient as they used to be. Now that version 8 "requires" IE, I am permanently staying away from any newer releases, since I do not allow any version of IE to infect my PC. I'll never get rid of trusty Communicator, though.
I really think that closed and open source are viable. The only thing I'm fundamentalist about is about not being a fundamentalist. So If I like a tool I use it regardless of it being open or closed source and regardless of it being free as beer or not.lobster wrote: closed source which is not to be encouraged because long term it is not viable
haha, when I said 'previous Netscape user' I realy meant Pre 6.0 user. Netscape really flopped there. Actually I moved from links (there was nothing else) to Mosaic 1.0 (the venerable) to Netscape, to IE for a while after the NS 6.0 flop and currently to Opera.glitchman wrote:I was extremely disappointed with Netscape 6.0, which made me stay with previous versions for a while.

People can be made to believe anything. For example here is a web site which proves that the Eiffel Tower does not exist - I created it after I heard that 30% of USA believed the moon landings were a hoax.
The other 70% are probably using MS based operating systems . . .

Can you make your mind up? Certainly hope so - I will put one together that works, as soon as possible.
. . . meanwhile just remember there is right and wrong - and it is wrong to believe there is right and wrong (I could be wrong of course)
What other websites have Puppys created?.
