Subject description: How can I use ROX filer in a Windows-like mode?

I can not do the same things as windows or iOS. In my Bionic Pup, ROX Filer can not even move a file with the drag and drop option: the file is copied but not moved. Then, when the file is trashed the original file is also deleted...
Can anyone explain it to me for dummies?

rox takes some 'getting used-to'. Does your post mean that when you:

1. Open one rox window to the file you want to move (window A)
2. Open a second rox window to the location you want to move it to (window B).
3. Left-Press, Hold, then drag the file from Window A to Window B and select Move from the pop-up menu, it doesn't move?

Make sure that you don't select Link(relative) or Link(Absolute). All that would do is create a symbolic-link (like a Windows short-cut) in Window B.

If you really have problems with rox, you can use Puppy Package Manager to install xfe (that's xfe NOT xfce). You might as well install xfe's themes. You can read more about xfe from this thread, http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=1039684#1039684. The specific post tells you how to turn-off the 'running as root' nag.

I usually configure xfe to have a "tree" plus two panes, like that shown here, https://www.linux.com/tutorials/4-excellent-alternative-graphical-linux-file-managers/

Drag and drop from one ROX window to another and you get a little menu with 4 options:- copy, move, link (relative), link (absolute) so you can quickly and easily copy or move.

If you choose copy, you can always then go back and delete from the original location. If you choose move, it is really just copy followed by a delete of the original anyway.

If you choose right-click and delete, the file will be deleted and not sent to trash, but this is only after the "confirm delete" dialog.

If you really want to send files to trash, drag and drop them on to the trash desktop icon, but this does not free up the space. Personally I don't usually use trash at all.

Rox is a one window file manager, but you can open it twice and go between windows.
Just change what location each window is showing.
One window for where you are.
One window for where you want to go.

Right click on an open area of the Rox window.
Select options.
Under drag and drop there are options for what does what.

Note:
Delete is delete.
Whatever it is is now no longer.

Before dropping the file, hold down the Shift key to move it.

Hold down Ctrl+Shift to create a relative symbolic link
Hold down Alt to get a menu of possible actions. This is the default, but was probably changed in your Bionic Pup. See bigpup's screenshot for the dialog where you can change it back if you like. Or use the middle button for moving.
