Recommendation number 1:
Read the wiki page for printers proven tested to work with Puppy
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/PrintersWorking

Recommendation number 2:
Open the printer wizard and see the list of printers nativelly supported in Puppy. That's your best bet.

There may be many other printers supported in Linux (in general) but if they are not in that list you may have to follow some extra steps to configure them (e.g. install CUPS)

If you use one of the printers in that printer wizard you won't have to install anything else.

So, look at that list, choose a printer, e.g. an HP or Epson are good options. Then before buying it, add a post asking people for their experience with that printer.

Recommendation number 3:
Visit the Open Printing website and search to see how well supported is whatever printer you have or want to buy:
http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting
in particular
http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/Open ... edPrinters

Recommendation number 4:
When you have a printer running make sure you add it to the wiki page for printers proven tested to work with Puppy
