Puppy 2.13 live CD
Compac Presario 1.1 GHz 256MB came without Ethernet
Got Westell DSL Router model C99-6100 30-06 thru Bellsouth whoseTech guy first said he never heard of Linux and then the supervisor said they dont support Linux and why don't I just use Windows XP instead but if I really insisted I should call a number and someone would come to the house and install it- The Geek Squad.
The Westell has two connections, USB and an Ethernet. Tried USB for most of two days with Puppy, Damn Small 3.1 and Ubuntu 6.10, Wiki, Forums, etc but no luck.
Managed to get set up and on the net thru USB with Bellsouth Fast Access account by running the installation disk for USB and not ethernet.
Bought Ethernet card ($15 Walmart) & installed.
I never ran the Westell installation disc again for ethernet but tried ethernet thu the Bellsouth connection and it worked anyway.
Followed PPPoE instuctions on Puppy (and Damn Small) and it works like a charm using the ethernet connection on the Westell.
Results: it really is much faster surfing, especially financial sites.
To put this in perspective, considering I am old, slow, no genius and with very limited computer skills, it should encourage others like me to make an end run around Microsoft, Bellsouth, AT&T and the Geek Squad.
If anyone thinks I could help, just ask.

Westell dsl modem ... ?
i just happened up on this post and i have
the Westell DSL c90 610030 06 modem, which
i use on my windowsME system.
i haven't tried to connect it to my puppy system as yet, so
i still use the external modem. this system, i am still using
windows 95, so i assume that the DSL will not work on it,
i am not really concerned about the DSL on this one, as
the other is my primary system and i am happy that i can
browse on both at the same time, huh?
maybe, i'll search to see if anyone else has a similar setup
on an old system, like mine, huh?
anyhow, my priority, with puppy, now is to find a sound
card that will work with ALSA, that i can install in this system
and still allow me to use it under windows 95.

Hey,
I finally did it, that is I finally got around
to getting connected to the ADSL.
After connecting the cable to the puppy PC, all
I had to do was configure the PPPoE for bellsouth, huh?
I had thought it would be a lot more involved to
get it setup, so I hadn't bothered with it before, but
it really zooms, huh?
