Morning, all.
I came across this one the other day - can't remember where, exactly, but it was through a link from something else. Ah, hell; never mind....
This is just one of the multitude of small, useful Java apps that are often worth making use of if you happen to have Java installed for any major application. There's tons of them out there, but you rarely find them by a direct search.....invariably, you tend to discover them almost by accident, often in the most unlikely places.
PinEmUp! is exactly what it sounds like; a way to 'pin' virtual 'sticky-notes' to your desktop for the duration of a session.....a handy way for short-term reminders.
It runs from a tray icon, via a right-click menu:-
....and is controlled by a small, but comprehensive control panel:-
It creates an XML 'prefs' file in /root, and with this it will remember all the notes you've created between sessions. The only drawback I've so far discovered is that although you can hide notes, I haven't yet found a way to actually delete them. This seems to be endemic to all of these type of utilities I've discovered over the last few years; short of deleting the XML file and starting over again, I don't see any other way of doing so.....
--------------------------------------
I've also added the ability to choose whether or not you want it to 'auto-start' at boot, via a second MenuEntry and a small, YAD-powered GUI:-
This just runs 'chmod -x' or 'chmod +x' on the wee script in /root/Startup. (If you prefer, set this to 'OFF' and start it from the Menu entry - Menu->Utility->Pin 'em up!) The PinEmUp! 'noarch' .pet can be found here:-

If you need a recent YAD, you can find one here:-

And the last 'Java 8', the '211 update', can be found here, as an SFS:-

Enjoy.
Mike.
