wireless / wifi cards confirmed to work in puppy - OLD LIST |
|
I have a netgear wg311v3 pci card and a pcmcia card of the same model and both were dirt cheap and work flawlessly in puppy and every other linux i have tried with ndiswrapper. they are far easier to set up and use in linux than in windows.
I notice a lot more interest in wifi these days, so I thought it would be a good idea to make a list of cards we have tried, please post with your card model and how well it works if at all, and if it works with linux drivers or ndiswrapper
the list so far is cards mentioned in many other posts, and is only the tip of the iceberg as yet. if you have one of these and want help getting it working, you will need to do a forum search for the card until I can put links to the right threads
updated list 28 July 2007 from posts found here - thankyou for contributing to the list

Zcomax XI-305B ATMEL Based Wireless card |

This card works in Puppy LInux 2.0. Download the Atmel.pup from MU's site.
Then use the "Connect to the Internet by Cable Ethener Interface" utility to configure it.

Netgear MA401 Subject description: Works -- But Quirky |
|
Using v2.13 & v2.14, I've gotten the Netgear model MA401 to work only if it is plugged in *after* the notebook is rebooted. In other words, I can *not* get it working if it's plugged into a cold system. Bit if it's done the way I suggest, it automatically determines that it should use the orinoco_cs driver.
Incidentally, this card identifies itself as a "Prism I" (one).
Off topic suggestion (being a nube here I am not sure where to put this) -- Upon clicking on the "connect" icon, and viewing the "Puppy Network Setup", I suggest that the driver name be in *BOLD* -- *BOLD* -- *BOLD* on the page -- so as to *STAND OUT* from the rest of the text on that screen.
I have a number of other wifi cards, with more on the way, and I would be willing to test future versions of Puppy on them.

WiFi Intel IPW2100 (Centrino) on Dell500m Laptop |
|
New to Linux as of today.
Installing Puppy 2.14 (SeaMonkey) on my Dell Insiron 500m (Centrino / 256Mb RAM) Laptop was only marginally more difficult than my previous reinstallation of Windows XP. Everything worked out of the box (although if anyone knows how to get better control options for a Synaptics Touchpad in Linux - let me know), except for a bit of trial and error with wireless networking.
Problems:
1. Auto-detected ipw2200 (rather than ipw2100), so needed to manually select correct driver in Network Wizard. I also re-installed and "unloaded" ipw2200, although I'm not sure if that's strictly necessary. Don't forget to "save" your driver modules, or you have to go through all that every time you reboot!
2. DHCP seems to work, and the connection passes all the tests, but I was then unable to actually access the internet via my broadband gateway ADSL router. Not sure why. Haven't tried accessing files on other (Microsoft) networked computers on my home network (don't know how on Linux yet). Solved this by manually entering a Static IP for my laptop instead, together with the Gateway IP.
Not an ideal solution, but I'm now fully mobile, after just 1 day of messing around.
Hope that's useful for other Dell (and Intel wireless) users.

Working Wireless cards Subject description: Intel mini-pci laptop cards |

I have had success with the ipw2200 driver in Puppy 2.14 for both Intel 2915abg and Intel 2200bg cards. The driver only supports the 2915 in b and g modes not a. Good enough for me. Installation was straightforward without problems. javascript:emoticon(' ')
Very Happy

I have a Compaq laptop with a BCM43xx built-in wifi card which works out of the box in Puppy 213. Scans for wireless perfectly, never fails me. I have used 214 and 215CERC1 without success. Yes I have followed all the suggestions about unloading the faulty driver and using my own driver with ndiswrapper. It sometimes works, but fails to remember that it DID work on reboot
I exercise my puppy VERY regularly and am sitting on 213 until the problem is resolved

My Zyxel g-302v2 now works with Puppy 2.14 and its version of the Wireless Networking Wizard. HOWEVER, it does NOT work from multi-session CD installation. See this thread for more info...

Dlink DWL-520 PCI card (acx100 chipset) works on Puppy2.14, installed via Network Wizard with acx driver (auto-detected). However, I can't get WEP or WPA to work (which work fine in XP).

3com AirConnect wifi card works Subject description: pcmcia wifi card on Sceptre, v2.15 |
|
The setup script in puppy 2.15 is working nicely; this setup came right up and found my neighbor's access point.
WiFi PCMCIA card from 3Com, model AirConnect 3CRWE737A (several years old, the price was right). It loads the orinoco_cs driver. (The antenna on this card doesn't appear to be too efficient ... had to wave the machine around a bit to get enough s/n).
The setup script in Puppy 2.15CE brings it right up.
Hardware is Sceptre N20U laptop (also several years old) running Puppy off the bootable CD.
