How to reduce background noise during a ZOOM session?

#1 Post by Sky Aisling »

Hello, :)

Is there is way to eliminate or reduce background noise during a ZOOM session?

I am running BionicBeaver-64 on a HP dm1 with 4GB of RAM.
The version of ZOOM is ZOOM-5.

The HP dm1 heats up quickly and the fan kicks on during a ZOOM session.
I am guessing it is the fan that is causing the background noise.

The group of people I ZOOM with say they have trouble hearing me because of static noise whenever I unmute my mike.

When I do the sound test in Sound Card Wizard, the left and right speakers give off a lot of static noise then the 'bark bark' sound file activates.

Is this the thread that addresses background noise issues?

Thank you in advance,

Sky

Sadly Sky, the design of the dm1 makes this unlikely. I found that I couldn't get it to to run at less than 60C, even using tahr 6.0.5 32bit, so the fan was almost always on. Being so compact, the fan is very close to other components including the mic, hence your issue. An external mic or headset MAY help. No promises.

Hi ozsouth,

You write:

Thank you for validating my concern.
That's what I thought about the little machine too.

So, I'll experiment with another laptop machine I have that is larger and has higher quality components. The issue there is that it is a 32 bit machine. Getting BionicBeaver-32 to accept ZOOM is another matter. See this thread:

I'll mark this thread 'SOLVED'.

I do not do zoom. But Why you do not get external microphone? Or even better a Bluetooth headset. Many even have noise canceling.

Try make sure no other program is running while in zoom.
