Hello.
...go file open then go to root pup_event and choose my sd card no files or folders that are on it show up
I don't know which Puppy you use, but /root/.pup_event is definitely the wrong place to open files on your SD-Card.
/root/.pup_event only provides information and scripts for ROX Desktop Icons.

Files on your SD-Card will probably be located at /mnt/sd<x><y> or /mnt/mmc<something_like_blk0p1>, depending on how the Cardreader is recognized by Puppy. The Driveicon should tell you.

Note: If you didn't mount the SD-Card, filechooser (File Open Dialog) has no access to your files stored on it. To mount, just click on the Driveicon before you try to open files from other Applications.

James, it helps a lot if you tell us exactly which version of Puppy you're using.

Typically, an SD card will mount as a "/mnt/mmcblk0.." partition.
