Installing devx_213.sfs and Puppy settings

#1 Post by BigPilot »

I would like to compile some C++ programs and I have downloaded devx_213.sfs but the instructions said you should save your settings since loading the devx file will completely alter your puppy. I don't want my network settings changed, if possible.

Does installing the devx package alter my Puppy settings, desktop, network settings?

no, it does not as far as I know.
You put it in /mnt/home and it is mounted automatically on next reboot. (except on full harddisk-installations).
If you remove it, and boot again, Puppy is in the same state as before.

If you want to try out new things, simply create a backup of your pup_save.3fs first, then you can mess things up until Puppy howls.
It is easy to restore from your backup then:

run from CD with
puppy pfix=ram

Then replace the messed up pup_save.3fs with your backu.
