How can I browse my cdrom? |
|
I've downloaded some themes which I then burned to a cd which I want to install from the cd since I can't connect to the internet with my laptop where pup is installed. How do I do it? How can I browse my cdrom?

If you are using Puppy 1.0.3 or 4 click on tha Start button, bottom left, move the pointer up to File Managers and click on MUT Media Utility Tool.
Wait for the information to be displayed and identify your CDROM, click on the word 'Mount' and this should open a rox filer window displaying the contents of your CD.
When you are finished go through the procedure again only this time click on 'Unmount' otherwise you will not be able to eject the CD.

Thanks for the fast response. I kept trying to type in commands and nothing. Just started using Linux a few days ago after being a long time Windows user (still am) But i'm starting to get the hang of it. Anyways is there any way to create a desktop link to it?

1) open ROX
2) browse to /mnt/cdrom
3) using your mouse drag and drop the cdrom icon to your desktop
4) to mount: right click and select mount
5) to unmount: right click and select unmount
----------------
If this does not work check the text file /etc/fstab and see if cdrom is in there
If is and it still doesn't work - put a data cdrom in the drive

interestingly, rox 2.2.0 mounts /mnt/cdrom automatically when you click it ... it unmounts it automatically when you close the rox window
rox does this for any drive listed in fstab

For beginner's interest
Puppy comes with ROX 2.0
GuestToo has put together a package to update it to version 2.2 which has more features.
