Puppy215CE can't access Zdrv.sfs? (solved)

#1 Post by joelei »

I've got my own Puppy running (actually i'm writing this within 2.15CE), and it is an amazing new world for me, but:
nessessary modules won't load automatically(sound, ethernet, wlan) .
PupScan shows all needed kernel modules, but insmod doesn't work
  • can't read 'r8180': No such file or directory
.
dmesg lists lots of:
  • SQUASHFS error: zlib_fs returned unexpected result 0xfffffffd
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read cache block [0:280]
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read inode [10e083d:179c]
    ...
and as a result (I presume) a long list of:
  • r8180: Unknown symbol ieee80211_r8180_wake_queue
    r8180: Unknown symbol ieee80211_r8180_stop_queue
    r8180: Unknown symbol ieee80211_r8180_rx
    ...
Well, I've got wlan up with ndiswrapper, but, hey I like some music too, and I'm somewhat concerned, because I'm planning to migrate from Windows to Linux und was thinking: Take the Puppy-Way.

Is this a hardware issue, some software problem (found nothing here in the forum, but I am new to all this) or just because I'm more a cats person?

Which version did you download ? You need the updated one from the 9th April, one of the RC versions had the zdrv.sfs file missing and no sound etc was being detected.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply, PhilCoo

It's definitely the latest 2.15CEFinal+patched Release.
Burnt it to CD-R and CD-RW, same effect.
About midday (here it is now 9 AM) I will have the opportunity to try on another box

Well, I had the same strange behaviour on a second machine, so I burnt there the CDR-RW again (much newer burner, much older Nero) and everything works fine.
What is beyond me is that every earlier attempt (some 2...isos and all the RCs) with the same burner and even the same media just work

but strange things happen
