How to install Mozilla Sunbird Calendar into Puppy

#1 Post by EarlSmith »

I really liked the calendar that Mozilla Suite had. So since Sunbird is the exact same calendar, I went to here:

http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calenda ... nload.html

and downloaded the GTK1 version.
TKZIP opened up and I extracted it to the /TMP folder.
Using Rox, I moved the Sunbird folder that was in /TMP and moved it to /ROOT.
Opened the Sunbird folder in /ROOT and dragged the Sunbird Executable to the desktop.
This probably isn't the right way to do it but it works. I am using Puppy 1.0.3 from CD and Sunbird is in /root so its always there.
It was so easy I'll just do it again when 1.0.4 comes out if I need to.
It is a little over 8mb, but I really needed this calendar

is this a calendar, which reads *.ics files.
e.g. which are generated by Korganizer?

So, you guys are saying you would really prefer to be using Moz Calendar than the Tcl/Tk Ical currently in Puppy?
If Apple's Ical program and Moz's Calendar can import/export between each other, I guess that's important.

My reason is: I use KDE at home and work and organize my appointments via korganizer. And I'm working on to things to solve with puppy:
Making some older computers ready to run in my homenetwork for my children and have a linux everywehre I find a computer.
Therefor it would be nice to have my calendar with me and I just find out, that Ical don't reads my .ics files..

just my 2 cents...

OK I tried EarlSmith' way and it works! ...sort of
I have no problems running sunbird and I even can display my *.ics file, which is generated with KOrganizer (calendar for the KDE project), but I have a prblem with the time settings.
My PC hardwareclock is set to UTC (to be able to use NTP), soo I have a 2hour diffrence there ( timezone Europe/Berlin).
in addition with the sunbird not supporting timezone so far I have a calendar, which is 9hours early.
:(
Everthing else works fine for the first view. (haven't tested editing in Sunbird and write back to KOrganizer).

EDIT:
seams that the testing made my calendar to write every appointment 2 hours earlier!!
