Can Puppy boot with PCMCIA disabled?

My laptop has a problem with most distributed kernels (I have to compile my own with some alternate settings to get PCMCIA to not hang the machine at boot). Puppy is not an exception here - the cardmgr launched at boot hangs the box... Any way to disable PCMCIA at boot ?
