#1 Post by Guest »

Hi there,
in the new Linux-User (Magazine, Germany) there is a long review about puppy 1.04. They also put a iso of puppy on the Magazine-CD.
Have a look: www.linux-user.de and enjoy it. vabene

There's a quaint charm about reading web pages translated through babelfish.

Good review though, very comprehensive.

I hope this has been added to the German wiki page and some of the other key wiki pages translated? That would be 8)

I added it to the german wiki-page.

I think there is no need to translate it, as the english pages contain all those informations.

:) What I meant is some of the other wiki information pages might be translated into German.

When I was using Kanotix some of the information was in English - without this I would not have been able to configure it for my hard disk

I am not sure which pages are critical though

(Babbs here - On travel without my password.)

When I was in Germany many years ago, I found most of the younger generation reluctant to use English because they had only used it in the classroom environment. I usually overcame that by engaging them in German first. I found that although the Germans that I encountered to by shy at first when speaking English, when they eased up, they knew more than they gave themselves credit for knowing. (We found it easier for me to put up with their Queen's English than them put up with my German.)

MU - When I was last in Hamburg, there were still two Germanys.

think this will most likely increase download rates from Germany ;-) I just got the mag today and wanted to post on it as well.

waere vielleicht keine schlechte Sache mit mehr deutschen Beitraegen ...

hat jemand rausgekriegt, wie man ein deutsches Tastaturlayout mit Umlauten hinkriegt?

Umlaute work like described on the german wiki-page, but just with Gtk2-applications, not in the console or with Gtk1.

I did not use de-latin1.map, but de-latin1-nodeadkeys.map.

Somewhere else in the forum is described, how you can set the locale to get the console displaying Umlaute, but I think you also might have to install german fonts that contain

@babbs...

Yes, the young ones speak english quite well.

But in my board I also have many users around an age of 50.

They have more problems, especially if they grew up in the former soviet area (easter germany, where people learned russian as first foreign language in school).

So it was long ago you were in germany, when there still was the wall (german reunion was in 1989) :)

MU - Yes, I was last there before the wall came down. I remember hearing machine guns firing in the night (while in Berlin) when people were trying to escape East Berlin.
